General Car Chat / Scam
« on: 24 September 2016, 14:51:39 »
I had the following message in an e-mail yesterday regarding the cloning of car Key fobs.

Just to make everyone aware of a motor scam that you may or may not have heard about :-

If vehicle keys with fob are left within a certain range of a vehicle parked up ( eg near your front door/hallway ) , there is a device which thieves are using to pick up the signal to the fob &  unlock the vehicle rather than having to break into the vehicle in their usual manner .

The best policy is obviously not to leave anything of value in a vehicle should the fob get cloned & to store the keys as far from the vehicle as possible in a metal container to try & block the cloning device .

Please could any of the  Site Managers who receive this email pass the message on to the guys who have site vehicles .

Thanks ,

Pat .

Now I thought the fobs had to be in use to transmit a signal so they could only attempt to clone while you were locking or unlocking your car.

Cars like my 370z have keyless entry where you only need to be in close proximity to unlock the car without actually using the fob so my question is are they transmitting all the time?

Does anyone on here know the facts behind all this?

General Discussion Area / BT Business Broadband
« on: 27 August 2016, 14:39:12 »
My boss decided we needed unlimited broadband in our site office at some new student accommodation blocks we are building as we are going to be there for around 40 weeks and we will have a lot of drawings to download, and BT was his choice.

Four weeks ago the engineers came to install the line, quite a long route form the cabinet which took them around 3 hours, this was a Friday and he said the broadband should be switched on by 3 0`clock....err no, not even by Monday morning  :-\

Phones customer services, somewhere in India and after about 45 minutes it`s found that BT have activated the wrong line so it`ll take a day to get the instruction through to them and three days for them to do it   :(

BT being so incompetent couldn`t even manage this simple task so decided to put a second line in, not at our request I might add, then send us a bill for £800 for the privilege  :o  and no we still didn`t have any internet, and after more wasted time talking to India it turns out that the line they put in belongs to plusnet  ::)

We get another letter from BT saying the internet will be switched on midnight 23rd August....that came and went and still no internet.

More phone calls to Gerupto Singh and we get told this will be resolved in 7-10 days.....WTF? That will be nearly 6 weeks and we still have no internet and the cheeky gits have sent us 4 bills already  :D

Just how do they get business when they perform like this?

General Car Chat / Parking Ticket
« on: 25 August 2016, 21:13:23 »
I parked my car in a street near to work yesterday and came back to find a parking ticket on it, now at first glance it looks like a proper parking ticket but once I opened it I quickly realised it was from a private firm.

Here`s where I parked my car, it was where the black one is now ( I took this this morning)

Here`s the ticket, note the ticked box, parked without a valid permit.

There are absolutely no signs at all saying it is private land or any parking restrictions and nothing on the road sign to indicate that it is a private road, there is only one sign and it is this one about cctv

I know this type of thing has been covered on here before so what is the best course of action, ignore it or take the fight to them?

TIA

General Car Chat / Motors at the Moat @ Leeds castle
« on: 09 May 2016, 21:49:04 »
We had a nice little run down to the other Leeds yesterday for a bit of a car show, something the Nissansportz club attend along with a lot of other clubs putting the cars on display.

It was an early start to ensure we were in for the 9am deadline so the cars can get set up before the general public start coming in, like 5.45 early and the sat nav was still showing an eta of 10.05   :o we managed to roll in at 8.59  :-X
Fantastic weather made it a great day for looking round all the cars and a walk round the castle was a must with it being one of the most beautiful castles in the UK.

There were around 400 cars on display of all types and ages, even a Ford orion 1.4L  ??? Plenty to see for all tastes from vintage to classic and modern.

we finally got home at quarter to ten, totally cream crackered after nine hours of driving and seven and a half hours of walking round in blazing sun and also not the best day to find out the aircon needs regassing  :'(

The Zed on display

Road legal Batmobile anyone?

RS 500

Gleaming E Type

Not seen one of these for years

My personal favourite

Mint Mexico

Last weekend I picked up my replacement for the Omega after what seems like an age since I paid the deposit.

It`s a 2012 Nissan 370z GT Edition, one of only 84 manuals in the UK, finished in metallic pearlescent white with dark anthracite wheels and comes with full Nissan service history, bought from a committee member in the Nissansports car club.
Not to everyones tastes or needs but I`ve hankered after one since they came out and i absolutely love it  8)

Here`s a few snaps for anyone interested

General Discussion Area / Speed cameras
« on: 12 April 2016, 23:02:53 »
I saw a fair few of these on Monday on the A1079 from Hull to York, this type have replaced the Gatso type but these don`t have any road markings  so are they average speed or just a static speed camera, it`s the first I`ve seen of this type though they are very similar to the specs average speed type.

General Car Chat / Said Goodbye
« on: 11 April 2016, 21:46:23 »
To my Miggy today, another one gone to the great scrapyard in the sky  :'(

And with the price of scrap it was a right job getting rid of it too, it had to be complete or not at all.

I`m sad to see it go but it wasn`t worth putting the money in to it but it has been a great car for the last five years and I now find myself not owning a Vauxhall for 29 years.

But roll on Sunday and I`ll be grinning from ear to ear.

Had a run down to Glouster today, a nice round trip that took a full tank of juice, the fuel light came on just a s I was pulling into the street  ;D

Anyway, the car in question is this little beauty

I`ve paid the guy a deposit and collect when he takes delivery of his new car, an arrangement that suits us both, counting the days now   8)
