Don't ever invite me to light your bonfire
« on: 03 June 2013, 23:07:35 »

...................... because they tend to get out of hand  :-[ :-X

Cut down my front hedge and left it in the garden to dry out.
So today, me and the lad started pilling it all into the burning bin.
Picked the missus up and dropped her in the middle to flatten it down, carefully made sure that there was nothing too close to it and in went a couple of matches  :y
( I did remove the missus first  :D)

Whoosh and up it went  :)

Came in and poured myself a beer and sat down.
15 minutes later, the lad comes running into the living room screaming something about a fire.
So .................. I calmly finished off my beer and strolled outside to see what was going on  ::)

Oh shit, half the wooden fence is ablaze.
This is the one which has had 3 or 4 good coats of waste 10/40 semi synth over the last couple of years  :-X

Some of the cinders had managed to blow across and land behind some plywood which was propped up against the fence but the real problem was the 8x4 sheets of plastic and the 4 spare alloy wheels complete with tyres on which was well and truly ablaze  :'(

Now its been along time since I did any fire fighting but needs must.
Out came the hosepipe and I got in close to douse down the seat of the fire while the lad is chucking buckets of water at the fence  :-[
Managed to get it all out so I've just spent the last 30 minutes dragging everything out across the grass so if anything goes up, it won't spread  :-[

Looks like i'm on fire picket for the next hour or so  :-[

You didn't come to Spain on holiday a couple of years ago and get lost by any chance?

They lit a fire so they could be "found" and set fire to thousands of acres of land!!

Keep a fire extuinguisher handy - have got two CO2 ones in shed, plus 5 kg foam, one 5 kg water in other shed, one 5 kg powder in omega ( for when oil leaks catch fire/power sounder)-
recommend if you use a powder that you keep mouth closed- it tastes horrible

Well, I knew I could rely on you lot for some sympathy and good advice  ::) ;D ;D ;D

Cheers  :y :y

Just had a good luck to see exactly what I bbq'd  ::)

The list now includes
1 x pfl front bumper.
2 x caravan wheels c/w tyres
2 air con radiators
4 alloy wheels c/w tyres
2 x spare wheels c/w tyres
1 x estate towbar

And I'm still looking (in between blubbing sessions)

Lucky, I hadn't put the hosepipe away because away is normally thrown on top of the wood  ::)

Oh well, i'm in the shite anyway so I've just text the missus to ask here if she fancied a bbq for tea  ::)
Lets just say the forum word filter would melt if I tell you what the reply was  :-X :-X

Sound like you have all the right credentials for lighting and maintaining the annual OOF bonfire after what I read on here with last years.  :o :o :o :o

Yes. They weren't actually that lost as it turns out. The police debated for weeks whether to charge them with negligence but in the end let them off.
