Title: Alternator Wanted Please
Post by: car-nut on 11 December 2011, 01:14:40
Hi, I have a 2001 Omega Auto Saloon 2.2 Auto Petrol, and my alternator doesn't seem to be providing enough power for everything in the car, It has supposedly had a new battery a week before I got her, so am going straight in at the alternator.

Has anyone got one going fairly cheap please?

Thank you

any diagnosis done before replacing it? Had a meter on the battery? Off/Idle/with revs?

Not tested yet, I know the battery was replaced a week before I got the car, I will be testing it later in the week. I am only using the Omega for local runs at the moment as I have just got my hands on a 98 Saab 9-5 2.3 Turbo which is for my partner to use for work, but I have no need to go out until Thursday.

I believe the 2.0 alternator is the same as the 2.2. But not 100% Please could I have a part number when you got a spare five minutes? Cheers

So why ask for an alternator before you've decided whats wrong?  Its more likely, esp this time of year, that the battery isn't getting enough time to charge on the short runs, with the lights and demisters on as well.

Possible Water Pump failure means I am no longer on the hunt for an alternator before Christmas. Thank you to everyone who PM'd me.
