DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FIT THE REAR/VERTICAL BUSH.
Most ,if not all clubs, have some form of subscription or membership fee.
For the sheer wealth of knowledge given freely by the members of this forum I would willingly have contributed even from day 1,so I agree if Jamie can find a way forward with a membership payment to keep this site running Im more than willing to contribute.
Thanks Nick , be in touch if assistance requiredNick yer , , ,thats why I sent you a PM a while ago . . .guess you did not get it or it got lost in the Covid disruption . Hopefully it won't be the bearing . I know the offside was a fail on the MOT just before I got the car . . .so that would have been done . . hoping that both were done at the same time . . ..car is on 198k now from 193k when I got it some 3+ years ago ...so will get out there at the weekend and have a look .
I thought I'd answered. Sorry
These aren't really a common failure, as most Omegas are scrapped with their originals. And it's a bit of a faff to change them, so just doing the one that's failed is the way to go. Estates seem to be worst for RWB failure, and it always seems to be the drivers side.
I'm happy to help if you need it
How does Mr. MOT tester evaluate a worn wheel bearing , just on 12 o clock /6 o clock movement ?
Nick , are you saying the pads could be sticking and causing the noise , or that I will get a better "Feel" of wear with them removed. Actually thinking about it , this noise only started shortly after I fitted new rear pads a while back.
He will spin the wheel(MOT is a very basic inspection with no dismantling allowed) and feel for any grittiness or noise while it turns. Then he'll rock the wheel at 12/6 and 9/3 to feel for movement. These are all subjective, but any noise or play is cause for concern and hard to argue against a failure decision - this is a disinterested safety inspection!
Sticky pads, or new ones on a used disc presents all sorts of symptoms, as does the handbrake mech. You can - should at this point - remove them to diagnose the problem completely, which might mean you'll spend a few quid and 30minutes on replacing the discs.
Rear wheel bearing failure is one of those faults that will be increasingly common(compared to previous experience) as these cars age. It's a <£50 part and a maximum of an hour's work for a proficient and adequately equipped mechanic.
Go and collect it
It's probably in Wales, Scotland or somewhere equally far away from Saffend!
My take on this would be........to take away some of your doubt and when you can given lockdown,......put a bottle of Wynns Lifter Treatment straight in your engine if the oil/filter is fairly recent and clean(ish). Give it a fairly long run to let the engine get to op. temp. and run for about 15 mins - start by letting the engine tick over at home with the odd rev til the fan kicks in, add the Wynns and then drive some distance preferably where you can keep the engine revs at 2.5/3.0 rpm - use 3rd gear if necessary - for 15/20 mins. Drain oil overnight or longer if you can to get as much old oil out. If your filter is recent, you could leave it as is - its not gonna harm too much and the small residual amount of Wynns is not gonna kill. VIP - use a 'premium' brand of 10/40 semi e.g. Shell or Mobil - no own brands stuff or cheaper less well known brands. After leaving the refilling as long as possible, put 5.4 ltrs back in if no oil filter change - 5.7 if you did. It could be that on your recent cam covers change/sealing sees that a bit of silicone sealant skipping around that could part block the lifter temporarily. See if that changes things and if not, its only cost you an oil change and the Wynns stuff as part of eliminating the cause. Check oil level next day. Drain down is always gonna happen at some point and experienced at various lengths of time since last shut down - that will depend on your mileage, previous care re oil quality changes and temps at start up. Main point despite all this,is that if it quietens after a short time it not a serious issue. Ant.
Phishing scam, SWMBO has had two, despite the direct debit going out of her account.
IIRC you get one e-mail per year from the DVLA confirming your next twelve months payments.
I think the e-mail address looked dodgy too with the gov being in capitals.
