Where do i buy some super bright xenon H1 hulbs?
« on: 21 January 2009, 10:02:20 »

I have a 2002 2.2 omega and wish to change my headlight bulbs to those fancy super bright xenon healdight.
I changed my original H1 bulbs with the ebay ones that promised to be Xenon super bright..but to be honest.. they were absolute rubbish...the bulbs did seem bright, but they were very poor.

I got so frustrated..I put back the original bulbs. However i have seen some omega with the xenon bulbs and they look very nice.

Where can i buy those really bright H1 bulbs, cost is no object as i have already wasted about £40 fiddling with cheap bulbs.
Can someone please recommend a good brand/make ?

Cheers.

To get 'proper' Xenons - ie, HIDs - as fitted to top spec cars you need to replace headlights, add an automatic levelling system, and headlight washers.

Its not a case of simply replacing the bulbs, its a very different setup.

For yours, Osram Nightbreakers or Philips +50 are supposed to be the best option.

similar spec bulbs are used on some agricultural machinery so you could check some proper garden equipment places, i.e not b&q, and they should be cheaper, HM Plant used to sell them for £5 or so each..

hello there, i bought a set of blue 100 h1's from china, cost about 8 euros delivered to france, they are fine but one  went dark after a few weeks. just bad luck, the problem with higher wattage bulbs though is that they will draw more current, ok we all have got a big alternator so no worry, but the wiring has to handle twice the amperage, and if you get a voltage drop on any bulb the light will be dimmer. :-/ in fact a 100w bulb that only gets 11.6v will be dimmer that a 50w bulb getting 13.6v. so measure the voltage and if the drop is worying then fit a decent relay to each buld, powered by very thick cable straight from the battery. result is very bright instantly lighting lights.  8-) mine are great, oh and t cut your lenzes if they are dirty, helps too. :y

any of those are top notch but hte rally sport ones at 130w are brilliant. i had 100/160w H4's fitted to my old civic and the light was HID bright! will be buying some for my motor shortly!

Little chance of that as they will be at best half the light output of a HID

To have the best look ahead and to see what's in front of you, use Osram Night Breaker or Philips VisionPlus.
And if you are outside UK, you might take a look on Philips NightGuide DoubleLife. Almost as bright, but twice the lifetime.

A 55w bulp should be bright enough.
If you think you need 100W bulps, it might be time to check lamp lense and reflector. Or go visit your opticeian  ;)
