Omega General Help / miss fire
« on: 08 April 2007, 18:18:31 »
Happy Easter Guys and Gals,

Ok small easter problem with the car. Got a miss fire on one of the cylinders not sure which one all i know is it runs like a complete bag. I have today replaced all the spark plugs and there is no difference. I did however notice some oil in the plug wells on the passenger side when i replaced them. Does anyone have any info on what it might be???? There was only about a teaspoons worth of oil in each chamber. When i restarted it there ws no change at all.

Many thanks in advnace

Omega General Help / Funny Burnt Petrol smell
« on: 16 January 2007, 18:45:56 »
Ok,

I have got a wierd burnt petrol smell when i first get into the car i had a problem with the heater controls a little while back (as in they were completely perished). I got some new ones but both the hiss from the vac pipes and the smell remain. I do not get the smell whilst the car is running only after it has been turned off and sitting for a while. Also when i took the stereo out there was fluid on the top of the head unit which smelt exactly the same as the smell in the car. Anyone got any suggestions?

« on: 24 November 2006, 17:18:37 »
Ok just a quick one this but when i start me car i get a hiss coming from the centre console. The hiss goes away when i accelerate but then promptly returns. If i move the heater switch to blow out onto my feet and face it goes away but the hiss is there and changes note when you change the setting for the heat direction.

-Thanks to everyone that has helped on previous isseues i have had with my car

Omega General Help / It's BACK with a couple of gremlins
« on: 19 December 2006, 18:34:16 »
Ok so a month later i FINALLY get my car back working WOOHOOO! But to my utter astonishment *sarc* there are a couple of things wrong with it. They gave me and advisory list which said that the rocker covers need replacing, the throttly body bolt needs replacing and there is a wire near the alternator that has broken. I have since found out they were not talking about the trottle body but the first section of the multi-ram at the front of the engine bay, i have not checked the wire near the alternator yet but i will. As for the rocker covers well sometime in the new year i will replace them. The one worrying thing though whilst the missus was driving to work the airbag light came on how would i find out how to fix this or even what is wrong with it????? got to get under the car later this week anyway to check out this broken wire.

p.s. it WAS 2 bent valves just took the garage a while to come roung to the idea!

How to tell the difference from a compression test wether there is a valve fault or a piston ring fault? is there a way to find out which is at fault???

Omega General Help / well i got it back out of the garage
« on: 29 November 2006, 17:57:35 »
Just to say a big thanks to everyone that has helped so far you have all been great and really helped us in this time of need.

Ok got me omega back today as the garage are now completely confused. Since the first time they tried to give me the car back they have:

Cleaned the idle valve
replaced the plugs
done a compression test (All ok though a little low on the first cylinder)
Topped up the oil (have slight rocker leak)
and done an emissions test.

the problem is the car still gives you a rocking sensation when idling at low RPM (when in drive for instance). I asked if they had checked the timing againand they said yes, I am also getting a tappet rattle from the top end are these two linked??? Is there a major problem with my engine???? does anyone know anything that may help??????????

Just would like to say thanks to everyone that posted before. You have all been a great help.

Well the update is that i have had the car droppped home and had n independant mechanic look at it. He has pointed the finger at the garage where i got it fixed originally. Went out and took some photos of what he described as "shoddy workmanship". It would appear to do witht ht etiming cover rubber and that half of it is inside the timing cover. So i re approched the garge that fitted the belt kit this evening and one mech piped up and said "its not uncommen for these to throw a valve" I thought myself at the time i was just getting fobbed off i mean is this a common thing?????? I would love to know

ok fist time i have tried to post pics but here goes.

ok this is the left bank where the rubber is visible.

And on the right bank (passenger side) the rubber has dissapeared into the cam cover.

Im guessing that this may be at least part of the reason that the can belt has failed.

Omega General Help / Complete Newbie with large engine problem
« on: 19 November 2006, 17:08:57 »
Hi,

Just recently bought  a 3.0 elite. Checked the history and the belt needed changing so i had it done, also had an oil and filter change whilst it was there. The car then decided she would cut out when i was driving her so i had a new crank shaft sensor fitted. All was well in the world of omega driving then last night on my way back from a meal out i heard a really nasty noise coming from the engine (sounded like very badly tuned diesel). So i got nice mr green flag out to come tow me home (even though i am nearly on first name terms with the garage now lol). The mechanic that towed me home said that it could be the big ends? and then suggested that i dont bother getting them fixed either go for a recon lump or get this one recon'd. I'm in a bit of a pickle here as we love the car and dont really want to get rid of it but at the same time i dont want to part with thousands to keep it. Any help or prices on recon lumps would be really helpfull. One thing though the car has only done 89k and the big ends have gone??????? i could understand it at 200k is this strange or am i just cursed?
