Estate washer pump query
« on: 24 November 2006, 15:31:34 »

Does anybody know if the washer pump from something like a vectra (much more common to source one from) will fit my estate?  Mine works great for the front screen, but no good for the rear.  I've had the whole thing to pieces and cleaned and lubricated, but even running it in a bucket of water with no back pressure to work against gives minimal flow in reverse. so the thing must be kernackered. Obviously would need to be from a hatch or estate model.

i replaced the one on my project estate cause it jammed, the new pump was taken off another estate and i tested it in a bucket too, blasted water about 8 feet either side!  :)

Troubly is i doubt a veccy one will fit as the washer bottle design is differnt? I remember the estate on right it had a long nose thing with the impeller on it which stuck down at an angle and then clipped in. I think the Veccy has a differnt washer bottle design? - Although i may be wrong...

Does the pump squirt water well when doing Tunnies test in a pot of water with not pipes connected?

Only in front washer mode. Very poor flow in reverse for rear wash

No pipes connected, just the loom for power.

I actually put the impeller in old bottle of squash filled with water (robinsons 2ltr) - Certinaly made a good water feature!

Far as i recall the presure was the same each side.

It is the same one as in the wifes Corsa so shoulod be pretty standard across the range. One outlet for saloons and two for estates and hatchbacks with rear wipe. Just changed mine. Guy on flea-bay has some new. Works a treat (just thawing out from doing it in the dark). The How To on here is good but it doesn't mention the bl**dy semi-rigid hose running across it pinning it in place but that only gives you acouple moreskinned knuckles :o.

Got one from a breakers , which works ok when connected to an external power source, but not in rear wash mode when fitted to the car, so i suspect that the switch on the columb is faulty.
