I cant believe how quiet the roads are. Its like 1960,s levels of traffic. The road outside where I work has had a constant stream of bikers hooning it up the road, taking advantage of the lack of cars.
Jealous ? Me?...……..Very much so.

Indeed , i hung up my leathers 20 years ago due to the increase in traffic and drivers complete lack of consideration/understanding .
would be nice to take my bike out now (sold many moons ago)
i'd probably wipe out ,half kill myself  and intensive care or hospital is quite busy right now  ;D

Sounds to me like your wife needs to develop a dry cough and a temperature to get her excused from babysitting detail. ;)

So when you or any member of your family, get infected, and the nurse/doctor etc can't treat them, because they have to stay home to babysit there children, Think... Or when you need food and can't get because the warehouse can't get staff to load/unload or drivers to deliver it,, ...  That's why the schools are open for key we workers...

My plan has been in operation since the 3 rd March but isnt going well. Avoiding other people, not touching door handles plus a host of other sensible measures.

The first two weeks were spent visiting my dad twice a day in hospital and my brother p.m. All with social distancing.  Plus dejunking dads house and stocking cupboards up with stuff for Boris’s over 70s isolate for up to four months. Fortunately I was ahead of the curve there. Didn't need toilet rolls , the cupboard already had enough. This last week has been first week of proper isolation,

During the second week he developed a cough with gallons of catarrh. Eight days ago I caught it . Bloody thing is a grim beast . Head ache, shivers, hot, .no runny nose but some episodes of spitting out or blowing industrial quantities of snot. My left eye has.   exploded red. Back home I would already have had a visit to my GP. I am going to a chemist today for hopefully some antibiotic drops or similar. Wish me luck there. Got to do something in case it is something serious.

Rest of the family and neighbours have stopped coming to visit except from outside the window. SIL works on customer service at a large local supermarket. Yesterday was 7.30 till 2 with 30 minute break. She might well have been in contact with an infected person by now.

One upcoming problem is I have organised for dad’s bathroom to be wet roomed. CV19 has helped. The council just postponed all his jobs with them. He can do it in two weeks - about ten days of supreme disruption. That will be a trial but hopefully let him live here for more years assuming he avoids falling......( my big hope is there won’t be a lockdown to stop him. Fairly sure there will be though)

I am having fresh food delivered by a previously set up acct with a supermarket. I also took out an Amazon prime ( free for30 days) Have used it to buy a ton of needed stuff like dossette box. I am still stunned at stuff ordered in the evening arrive the next morning including my firestick. Set that up last night and started watching stuff.
Bloody hell, Varche, your condition sounds nasty. Hope you feel a bit better soon.

With regards to food, we called in Iceland after dog walking duties. It was relatively quiet and, even though I know some people would look down on their ready meals, they had plenty of them and they are certainly convenient if there's not much else.
They are a way of getting something inside you if you're feeling grotty too.

Thanks for the tip about the disinfectant, Dave, think I've got a bottle tucked under the sink somewhere  :y

The absence of the chesty cough probably means it's just a really heavy cold but, if he lived around here, I'd certainly be giving him a wide berth.

Yes, the thought has occurred to me more than once. They don’t mention biblical gallons of catarrh though so I am hoping it is a head cold.

Just got back from chemists. Very helpful and patient guy clearly run off his feet. He assured me the eye was nothing to be concerned about but to monitor my blood pressure. We already do that in Spain ( everyone is expected to).  What was interesting was the lack of over the counter meds like aspirin, paracetamols, cold cures and the like. Got plenty of Viagra and condoms. Maybe folk are too involved in panic buying to engage in leisurely pursuits. :o

Don’t worry I already have been giving people a wide berth for last 19 days! I skipped the greeting by touching feet or elbows. Far too close.....

With all this obsessional hand wringing and hand washing I reckon  therapy for OCD will cost the NHS billions after this has all blown over.....which it will. ;) :D

My take on events.

Yes. We all need to be vigilant and responsible but I think we are starting to reach a tipping point where paranoia and fear are taking over from rational logical thinking. This to me is far more worrying than the virus. Objective reporting of the virus would be good but sadly all media outlets like the news of the day to be 'sensational'......  much like a headline from that famous redtop.....The Sun. 'Gotcha' springs to mind.

It looks as though China is getting the virus under control following 3000 death from a population of 1.45 billion. Probably a large number of these would have died of  seasonal flu anyway.

Other family members to be concerned about? Which was the meat of STMO's post.

My elderly parents passed away some years ago. So no concerns for me there, unlike some others here at OOF, as the elderly are far more at risk.

Although I rarely, if ever, mention  'the product of my loins' ;D I have been married several times (at least, it seems) and have 'a small collection' of adult children'. With one or two exceptions from the more intelligent amongst them relations have not been great, or even good, for a long time. :-X They live their own lives, are fit and healthy and will be fine. Nuff said. :-X

I also have a 2 year old son who lives with his mother and 'her fella' :-X I currently pay £500 PCM ( not to mention the cost of new laptops) which I think is very generous. This figure is reviewed and mutually agreed every 12 months to keep money-grabbing solicitors and other assorted  legal professionals out of the financial equation .F*uckers. :-\ Being very young my understanding is that the Opti nipper is in a very low risk category......although obviously I am still concerned, but not paranoid. :y

I feel this virus is bringing out both the best and the worst in human nature. While some people are selfless and altruistic, others are selfish f*uckers.

I really hope this virus doesn't turn us all into 'frightened selfish children'.........we'll be fine. :y

And.....oh yes, STMO......you are a big northern jessie. :D ;D ;D

I've been going about my business pretty much as normal up till now and if anything a bit more than usual in the expectation that I will be staying at home more.  As mentioned in the other thread I have for some time now chucked 'something extra' in the basket when shopping so I have plenty of supplies.  I think tomorrow I'll make a foray out to buy some DIY supplies and then will only go out for essentials or to places where I can stay away from people.

I'm generally fit and healthy and almost never get colds, coughs etc and when I have been ill it's almost always been something nasty or life threatening.  Malaria two or three times,  cancer and even scabies!  Don't get that! Its horrible!  :o  ::)

The thing is that I don't really know how the six months of chemotherapy has affected my immune system long term and if I catch it, whether I could fight this thing off.  :-\

I'm not particularly worried about it though.  I'll be careful and what will be will be...  :)

This is not going to sound like me at all, but here goes:
The wife is having to go into school to look after key workers children, probably for the duration of the emergency. Yesterday, after watching news reports from Italy and Spain, we decided that most people, including us, were not taking the situation seriously enough, so we thought we'd put some rules in place.
The reasoning behind this, for us, is because we are an interdependent family of three, the loss or incapacity of any one would make life seriously bad for the other two. A bit dramatic, maybe, but why take unnecessary risks?
I'm picking up my son from Sheffield uni tomorrow afternoon and he will get a stern talking to. 20 year olds don't really take this kind of thing seriously but, after I've told him how shit his life would be without me to ferry him around, feed him, wash and iron his clothes, etc., I'm sure he will take notice.
We will be doing the obvious things like washing hands whenever we come into the house (I'll be an absolute pain enforcing that), and general good personal hygiene. After every use of cutlery/ crockery, the person using it will put it in the dishwasher, ready for the hot treatment. Other things around the house, but you get the picture.
Whilst I'm still allowed, I'll be walking doggie away from my usual busy country park, around the fields at the end of the road. When I go out at the moment, the world and his mate are stroking and feeding her.
I'm going to try to use Iceland and other small supermarkets instead of the daily scrum at Asda. Dog walks and shopping will be my only reasons to go out.

You'll all have your own opinions about this, ranging from 'Wussie bastid' to 'Seems quite obvious/sensible', but each to their own.

Any tips/advice/tales of your particular adventure would be very welcome. Despite my abrasive tone from time to time, I think the world of you all. Please stay safe.  :-*

That seems like a great plan Steve, given your circumstances.  8) 8) :y

That is how we all must go with this; protect those around us whilst keeping our distance away from home if we are not isolated already.  ;)

I also admire how Steve's wife, and thousands of others, are going to keep the nation going and even make personal sacrifices. They are bloody marvellous! 8) 8) :-* :-* :y :y

Thank God we have such people out there, and not all the selfish bastards that have hoarded more than they will ever need, or are ignoring the National advice to think of others. >:( >:(
