Windscreen trim 2002 2.2 petrol
« on: 06 August 2020, 19:20:16 »

Does anyone know if the windscreen surround rubber trim is available new? I had a new screen fitted but this part wasn’t replaced, and as mine is now 18 years old it’s a bit worse for wear.
Thanks

I asked this very same question at Vauxhall approx 2months ago, and apparantly it is although not in the UK, so it would be several days to arrive from which ever warehouse has it in Europe. It is GM part no. 90460335.

Have you actually asked at your Vauxhall dealership? When I was doing some work to the lower windscreen moulding seat a couple of months ago, I asked my local VX dealer about availability of the upper and lower rubber mouldings (the rubber 'seals' that are visible which come in two parts) and the seats (that hold the rubber mouldings) which come in four parts.
Apparently the only parts that are available are the upper rubber moulding, and the lower seat.
I decided to order the two whilst still available, and although they took a while to arrive ftom Europe due to Covid, they duly landed at the dealership.
Some parts people only check local or UK stock, and pressing the buttons to search further a field out of the UK often seems too hard to do for some.
If you do want a genuine GM (which I would always prefer), I'd call them and ask the question without taking NLS for an answer.

I haven't picked them up as yet, and although they did tell me when I ordered them, memory loss has crept in, but they are waiting for me to collect at the dealership. I have been away on holiday, and are having to quarantine for 14 days  >:(  ::)
As soon as I am 'allowed out' to pick them up early next week I shall give you the cost of the two....

The upper rubber moulding retail price is £63.00 plus VAT
The bottom plastic seat / retainer retail price is £18.27 plus VAT.
But then there is whatever discount (usually between 10 and 15 %) you can factor into it.
Although, with them being in short supply, the price has gone up - the retail price of the moulding I bought in 2016 was £46.25 plus VAT. The lower seat hasn't gone up much - the retail price in 2016 it was £16.55 plus VAT.

What of the other two parts?

'Trim' consists of four pieces:
1. 'goal post' frame. Originally  two sides and top, but redesigned to single piece.
2. bottom edge frame. £18.75?
3. 'goal post' rubber trim. £63.00?
4. bottom edge rubber trim.

You have got your facts a little incorrect. Latterly, the windscreen seats were available in 4 parts - top, LH, RH and bottom, and the rubber moulding as upper (goal post as you call it) and lower. As I said earlier in my post on the 7th August, the upper moulding and lower seat are the only two parts of the windscreen components that are currently shown as still available from VX, unless there are some gathering dust in a dealership parts department, but my local dealer did a search of dealer stock held in the UK with a negative result. The two pieces I priced here came from Germany.

They were correct when I bought a complete set around 2010, although it is possible that the two piece frame was the original and the four piece was the redesign. Having suffered the effects of a poorly fitted screen reusing the frame, it isn't something that I would recommend, and an aftermarket trim kit is only as good as the screen fitter and they don't take kindly to having damaged/glue coated rubbers forced into them.

Goal posts was the description used by the parts bloke at Stevens Vauxhall, and the frame and rubbers all came from Germany as a special order.

All a moot point if you can't buy the complete set from Vauxhall...

prices of spare parts, especially small ones, have very little to do with their cost to produce.

With Omega parts, you're paying for availability of parts that were only used on a relatively low production car last sold 17 years ago. The resources to provide such things are very expensive!

I think next time I am at my local breakers, I will check the condition of the upper moulding on Omegas that are in. Last time there were several facelift cars in. The upper moulding sometimes crack on the curve on the top corners, or if the screen has been out previously, it all depends on how well the windscreen fitter has re-fitted it, and not distorted the tongue that sits in the retainer / seat. They usually don't ask much for rubber parts.
