Hi

I have known for a while my front discs are buggered, still chunky but one of the calipers was seized a while back and the back of both discs are pitted. Anyhoo I'm thinking of getting a set of mintex front pads/discs. Is this a good buy or recommend any other ones?

All post '98 have the same front brakes... 296x28. (286x24 for 2.0).

2.6/3.2 also have vented rears. 286x20 (286x12 for rest).

Before you buy anything I suggest you PM member Keith ABS and see if he can help you out.

Best results are had with genuine GM front pads. The Vauxhall Tradeclub GM pads are part number 9192124, still available via ebay for around £20 a set. The factory original pads are Jurid (GM #9195077) and scarce as hen's teeth, last I saw a 'genuine' set was north of £60.

Use QH or Delphi discs. Forget Mintex.

I have fitted Comline discs to several vehicles now, and I am very impressed with their quality and fitment. They are coated which prevents the unsightly premature rusting of the hub which occurs quickly with uncoated discs. Comline are a UK company based in Luton, and also supply pads under the brands of Allied Nippon, as well as Comline (there is no difference in quality of the two - just marketing brands). The pedal feel and stopping power is good from just a few miles of use, and their cost is very reasonable. I get mine from my local motor factors next day if not in stock - notably cheaper than Ebay as there is no postage factored into the price.
Just my thoughts - everyone has their own preferences but they get full marks from my point of view. I used to fit Mintex, but over the last few years, I haven't been particularly impressed with them.

Thanks all for input so far, I wasn't sure if it was worth the extra cost for uprated brakes as I don't really need them if I'm brutally honest. I have been used to my brakes being a bit wooden and I know it is front discs need changed, I rebuilt all the back with new GM discs and pads and it improved the brakes quite a bit. I might just go down the standard route thinking on it.

The Mintex stuff you buy from motor factors (and ebay/amazon/insert overpriced tat bazaar) are very much budget items.

I have always gone back to GM discs and pads on the Omega, they just work, and work well, and take a lot of abuse.  Obviously, if you use the car on track days, you need something better, but thats a far bigger upgrade.

The disc/pad kits are actually pretty good value by the time you've bought two discs and the pads...


That's to say longer life and better performance for an extra £30 or so

+1 as above replies by DrG and TB. Std VX proven time and again.
Chap at work tried the aftermarket for his newish Insignia, and GSF delivered the wrong sized pads, loads of time wasted. I don't blame him for trying though, VX discs and pads for that are £600!!! No more trade club thanks to PSA

Anyone know how much VX are charging for a pair of front discs these days ? I will need a pair soon.

In my experience a combination of the 9195077 (jurid pads) and a good disc such as GM TRADE CLUB or Pagid gives the best solution.I have also had good experience with Comline discs. These pads are also very durable.

The other thing to watch for is that the sliders are free and the pads move freely in the caliper so avoiding the dreaded corrision on the outer edge of inner face that Omegas are susceptable to. Good tip is the sand off the paint on the pads where they are secured in the caliper so they are nice free to move.

Just ordered a set of front discs and pads from Autovaux for sub £120 delivered after ringing local dealers who wanted north of £170+vat for just the front discs and he was honouring Club Trade prices.Told me they were factory order only now and were over £260+vat thats just for the discs.

Have been hunting for ages for a set of the old Trade pads..Jurig..as they were excellent ...but proving impossible unless State side with silly postage and imports

I have recently bought two sealed boxes from Germany. Cost me about £67 including £13 postage for two sets which I was more than happy with!! Unfortunately the supplier doesn't have any more...... or else I'd have bought the lot...!!!
