Omega General Help / Instant gasket for autobox
« on: 27 April 2012, 21:04:17 »
Hi peeps.

Doing atf on my bros elite on Sunday. I used new gaskets on mine before, but going down the cheapo route this time and cleaning the filter also.

What can be used as instant gasket for the sumps? I seem to remember someone mentioning Loctite **** something or other and Halfords do it? Oh how long does it take to set/dry?

Thanks peeps

Omega General Help / Knock sensor
« on: 26 April 2012, 19:57:58 »
Hi peeps, I've got a vague understanding of what the knock sensor does. Can anyone be a bit more specific? I know not all cars have them. I'm getting a code 16 on my bros new elite. EML light isn't on, no other codes apart from 31 (when engine off), and it's running fine.

Any ideas? It can just be left for now right?

Thanks peeps

Omega General Help / Can I use 5/30 and 10/40 together?
« on: 21 April 2012, 13:42:12 »
Hi peeps, as there are now three amigos and a transit in the family I need a lot of oil. I have spare bottles left over from 4 for 3 offer, of 5/30 and 10/40. Can I use half of each say, or varying proportions of each when changing oil on one vehicle? I can't see any reason why not, but just thought I'd make sure. Oh yeah because I don't wanna go and buy more oil just yet.

Thanks peeps

Omega General Help / Converting auto to manual
« on: 18 April 2012, 21:46:15 »
Hi peeps, briefly what's involved in changing a 3.0 auto to manual?

My brother is considering getting an Omega, he prefers a manual but would buy a good auto then convert to manual.

I've got access to a pit and plenty hands so access is not a problem. I've done all the work on my migs including ABS ECU and exhaust manifold gasket (horrible), so I should be able to do the gearbox easy enough shouldn't I?

Oh and how long will it take?

Thanks peeps

Omega General Help / Where are rear fogs?
« on: 16 April 2012, 13:16:47 »
Hi peeps. My mv6s fogs aren't working since I remOved 12n plug and factory fitted tow bar. All I did was unplug the plug behind trim in boot.

As theyre not working, I cant turn them on to see where they are.

Does anyone know where they are? Either boot or wIng section Of rear light cluster? And is it the sort that is Integrated with other bulbs or are they seperate?

Thanks peeps

Omega General Help / New handbrake cable
« on: 14 March 2012, 21:51:19 »
Hi peeps, whilst towing a transit my handbrake cable decided to snap itself. I can tell that the right side must've come off the compensator bar by corrosion/snapping/undoing or whatever, I haven't been under yet. The left side is holding it, just, as the tension on the cabvle is obviously greatly reduced and the lever travel has greatly increased.

Where's the best place, and cheapest to get a new set of rear cables. I've seen some inc compensator bar for £30. Is that any good? Thanks peeps :y

Does that make sense? When you open he sprung compartment things on the doors there are little black things on each end that dampen the noise when you close it (it slams shut). When I was cleaning the inside I lost one as it stuck on the door then dropped as it's hardly ever opened. If someone's got a breaker I'll have them all. Thanks

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - Jacking point covers
« on: 31 January 2012, 22:48:57 »
Hi peeps, as above. I need the jacking point cover for the f/o/s in Nocturno blue for my Elite (will put up the paint code when I remember/look).

If you have all four off a breaker I'll take them all. Doesn't matter if the retaining strap is broken/not there, as long as the clips are there to make them flush with the sills.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Drop links and ARB
« on: 30 January 2012, 17:22:08 »
Replaced my drop links with lemforders from Allgermanparts two nights ago at work (better than the pattern parts that were on). Also polybushed the ARB while I was on.

Anyway, there was a clear dull knock from the d/l when going over bumps, which has obviously now gone. My q is, where does this knock come from. I mean, yeah the ball joints on the old d/l had alot more play in them than the new ones, but by the nature of what they are and how they're fitted, I don't get where the knocking comes from. Does it knock against itself?

While I'm on, how the hell is the ARB meant to work anyway? Obviously once both d/l were off the things just a loose bar. Does it somehow transfer movement/compression to the other side to smooth it out and make it more comfy?

Can't see polybushed ARB bushes making a difference TBH, apart from longer life?

General Discussion Area / Circular saw blade sizes
« on: 22 January 2012, 05:37:30 »
Hello, doe anyone know the standard sizes of these blades? The inner and outer diameter please? I know their are different sizes, but is there a common size/industry standard? Just so i don't get an obscure sized one where it'll be difficult to get blades.

Thanks

General Discussion Area / Mobile phone charging mats
« on: 19 January 2012, 15:02:25 »
Hi peeps,

does anyone have any experience of these mats that you place your phone and other small electrical devices on to charge, without actually plugging the charger into the socket of the phone?

My iphone 3gs has got that dreaded unable to charge problem, which is crap as I was going on to giff gaff with it and stopping my soon to be finished contract and saving money. But if the phone is kaput i can't as i couldn't be without an iphone now and i don't want a new contract or the expense, so thought I could use one of the charger mats to get around this problem.

I've already dismantled my phone and have a new charger module thing on the way, so hopefully that will work, although I think the problem is software related.

Thanks peeps

Have you seen this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfph3iNC-k

I'm too thick to embed it, but this guy is a lunatic. I must admit I'd do it though as I'm not really scared of much. Just wondering at what point do you discover you can do it? I mean you don't build upto it like getting the stabilisers removed off your first bike.

Where he comes close to the balloons is quality, any estimates on speed?

Omega General Help / Are all V6 alternators the same?
« on: 17 January 2012, 23:08:49 »
Hi peeps, as above.

I have a spare sitting in the garage which is off a v6, but I want to get the numbers etc off it to get the correct bearings etc, obviously if it is the same I can get the parts without taking the current one off my car to check.

I've seen the guide and taken the numbers off there but the place I'm getting it wants more info.

Thanks
