Hello, does anyone know why i get a clicking noise from the front o/s caliper everytime I apply the footbrake? This has only started happening since i changed the pads and discs.

Presumably it's that sliding bolt thing taking up the slack? Is it meant to do that? I've never heard it before.

Hi all,

my test is due in May which has got me thinking.

I had an advisory last year for brakes only meeting something like 57% efficiency. (I believe 50% is the lower limit?). When driving on the road the brakes felt absolutely fine, and progressive like they should, not like a horrible combo van that nearly put me through the windscreen!

Anyway since then I've changed the front discs and pads, the rear pads, the brake fluid, and changed the abs ecu which I know will probably make no difference!

The brakes now might feel marginally better i think, but they would still stop the world before all that work.

My point is, was the 57% test result innacurate for any reason, as I think the brakes are amazing. i should also add that I have suspected they just want the work (even though I do it myself).

Hello, recently I noticed both fans kicked in immediately on a cold start. This doesn't happen all the time though. Do I need to replace the radiator thermostat fan switch? And, is that what it's called? Thanks

Hello all, can anyone help with this issue please?

My Elite in the last year or so has had new discs, pads, wish bones, drop links, tied rods, rear air shocks (Monroe), and donut bushes.

When I got it it was lovely and smooth and comfortable, the reason I bought it. Anyway, the handling seems to be getting worse. Every little bump and hole I can feel through the car, and it's much worse from the rear. Unless I'm on a perfectly smooth road there's no fun in driving it anymore.

I need a wim setup (front tyre wear - wheels noticeably out) so have only got some crappy ebay wishbones atm until I get Lemforder ones and get myself to WIM.

I know the elite has a softer setup than the MV6, but the mv6 copes with bumps and holes much better.

Not only can I feel the road surface there is a loud banging noise aswell. It's not just the state of the roads either (even though they are in an unacceptable state bearing in mind how much we pay for them), it is getting worse.

I was thinking that new shocks on old springs could be the problem? What does anyone else think?

Hello, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the lower divider on the v6 engines are different in size according to engine size?

I broke mine and fitted a second hand one, assuming at the time they were all the same size. Thinking about it no I wouldn't want a smaller one fitted to my 3 litre, therefore restricting airflow.

Omega General Help / Pre empt oil cooler and stat change

Hello everyone. What are your ideas on doing a pre emptive change on the stat and oil cooler?

Stat not really showing any symptoms apart from even after been given long enough, the cab temp doesn't really get that hot, only when set to Hi it blows out and you get cosy toes! Temp gauge ok, only started happening since the cold snap. I'm going to give the matrix a good flush and see what that brings.

Oil cooler, well the plate needs resealing, and it is probably the original cooler from 10 years ago, and before I got it I very much doubt it had any coolant servicing.

I just thought about doing this so I don't get caught out if/when they do decide to go defective, not that I'm flush with money to spend on thing that don't need doing, but what the beast wants, the beast gets! (The elite)

Hello, I'v just got the stuff i ordered from the OOF shop, thanks BTW to whoever runs the shop :y

Anyway, the v6 cambelt DVD is really good. I think I'll be doing that myself the next time I need it doing. My question is, once the belt is off, what else do I need to do to replace the crank seal? Will I have to drain the oil and take the pulley of then just fit new seal?

Got the OOF car stickers aswell, it looks like the letters are all seperate which mean it will be harder to stick them to the back window and get them all lined up and level, has anyone else done this? Thanks

Hello, will cat pipes from a 2.5 pfl fit a 3.0 fl? I don't see any reason why not, although the shape of the actual cats looks slightly different.

Omega General Help / Forced induction/multiram removal/ecu remap etc

Hello, if one were to employ forced induction on a V6, could the rear multiram be rendered inoperative by merely removing the plug? Or would it need removing?

As the ecu meters fuel based on airflow, could this not need remapping/replacing as it would meter more due to forced induction? Or does it only meter upto a set parameter?

Omega General Help / Mayo on oil cap after oil change

Hello, I changed the oil on the beast a few days ago, and since then the cars has only been manoeuvred at the front of the house until today when I did 20 miles or so.

Anyway, before todays journey I checked the oil filler cap and it has a covering of mayo, when it has never had this before. I normally use genuine GM 10/40, but on the recent oil change I used 5/30 (5/30 for winter 10/40 for summer).

Could this just be down to different oil ( I hope the headgasket(s) isn't/aren't on the way out!) I do do a fair amount of short journeys, but never had it before. There are no other symptoms apart from the usual vapour from the exhaust, the engine ticks over beautifully!

Jimbob suggested that my multi rams might not be working properly due to a huge surge in power under hard acceleration at 4100 rpm in my Elite(auto). 

Will a paperclip test show any codes for this? Is there anything I can do to look after them? Cleaning or lubrication of some sort?

I thought this normal, even though my MV6 (manual) doesn't do it, as my old Senator (auto) did.
