Hi peeps, I have a cam sensor code so intend to change it for a spare I have off a breaker. It's down on power and isn't running well, with noise coming particularly from the drivers bank.

What needs to come off to get access to the cam sensor? There's me thinking it's just a straight swap hahaha! Until I looked. I've done the cam covers and exhaust manifold on a v6 before so can do it, but never really took much notice of this so need to know what needs to come off to give access.

obviously I can undo the plug, but following the wire it goes right behind the cams, I can't even feel or see where it goes, let alone get a driver (what drive is it) on there

I suspect you've found why its failed then

V6 cam sensor is supremely reliable, but sounds like you've caught it under the cam cover when they were last changed.

I remember changing the gaskets a while ago and was aware that that can happen and remember thinking about not to do it, but can't actually remember putting the cover back on. Should the sensor be easily located and removed without removal of anything else then? Thanks

8mm socket should be all thats required... Sensor sits on the inboard side of the 246 exhaust cam just behind the cambelt rear cover and slightly forward and inboard of the aircon plumbing bracket

Being a stupid engine, you might have some extra plumbing to negotiate, but on the Dbw v6 it's a two minute job including a cup of tea and a snooze...

2 min job? Unless I'm on a different plant I can't imagine it taking less than 2 hours never mind 2 mins! The wire on the sensor on the breaker is frayed anyway, so looking like gonna have to take the sensor off the other side (assuming they're the same). Looks like front and rear belt covers and air con compressor (assuming that's shat if is) has to come off

Are you sure you're looking at the correct sensor

V6 cam sensor is readily accessible from above, the only thing in the way is the bonnet

Oh yeah I assumed there was two, 1 per bank, so was looking at wrong side! Thanks peeps it's off now!
