Worst case scenario... What would an average cost of replacing the head gasket be? Ya know everything from the gasket, head bolts, labour ect?
-
Would have thought around the £400 mark if you do cambelt/water pump at the same time :-\
-
And without doing them? They're relatively new ( 6months old)

Maybe £100 less in parts, but you still have to remove/refit the belt anyways. Not my car, but you would be best advised to change it :-\
-
Hmmm still not a too high price to do it all including cam belt again.... Is this rough price what I would expect to pay a local garage to do or is this from someone on here??
-
It rings a bell from previous threads on the subject :y
Pete, Daz and Marks DTM would be the first three people to discuss actual cost with, as all have several under their belts :y
-
Labour is going to be the expense as it is several hours work.
A gasket set is about £70, the head bolts another £25, allowing another £20 for odds and sods(manifold fittings, etc) is probably wise. I would reuse a six month-old cambelt, but would replace the thermostat as part of the job; that's another £20.
If having this done at a garage, I'd be expecting a bill of more like £7 to £800.
-
Pete is nearer to me but works full time.... No guarantee it needs doing though but fingers are pointing that way... Just weighing up options as to do it or get rid of it for something newer !!!
-
Wouldn't pay 7 / to £800 to do it as car probably only worth £500

An attitude adjusment is needed... the car is only worth £500 to someone else, and then only if it's in a saleable condition, ie working.
Is it worth more to you fixed or as scrap?
In your shoes, I'd ring Pete and ask the question. If he can't fit it in, they drop Daz and Mark a line. At least then you'll know what it's likely to cost :y

I would point out that you need to be certain that the heads need to come off before starting this job.
It's not like an OHV 4 cylinder that you can knock off in an hour for £15 in parts.
I changed mine earlier this year having eliminated all the other faults and their symptoms first.
-
£100 to £200 in parts and use the guides and advice on here to do it yourself. Lots of ancillaries to take off, a few awkward bits like dropping the exhaust downpipes, coolant transfer pipe to block, renewing the exhaust manifold gaskets and b-bolt, other than that quite straightforward. If thermostat is old it is worth doing at the same time (saves replacing the aluminium pipe) and you may need to redo the oil cooler to block gasket.

Ay I think your right.. I did / do have plans for this miggy as i do like it... Like bung on a stainless exhaust on that's proped up in garage and getting bigger wheels ect.. But as the car gets older there always seems to be something else to drain your wallet..
-
Only think it needs doing as its leaking water from the rear near side corner of head and local garage tells me its head..

That last sentence applies across the board :y

That is where they tend to fail...

I shall drop a line to various people to see whose available and sort out costs ect
