Title: coolant level switch

hi everyone after a bit of advice please.car takes about 5mins to get to normal temperature before fans kick in.used to take longer than this or am i imagining it?.the low coolant level message appears on display only when it gets to normal temp but there is never any coolant missing!?. been doing this a couple of weeks now nb.this has only happened since changing cam cover gaskets.is it a coincidence or have i left maybe a vacuum pipe off.any ideas?.

Slow to heat up might mean the engine thermostat is stuck open.
Is the coolant level correct when cold and after the engine has not been run for a while/overnight?

Level switch is in bottom of header tank and I believe been known to go faulty.Car should warm up a bit quicker now with warmer weather than it did in winter.I don't think it should affect what you're seeing but might you have disturbed the wire for the temp gauge or the plug for the coolant temp sensor both of which are on the coolant bridge below the inlet manifold?

Dont know what others think but 5 mins to get to normal temp on a v6 sounds very good to me.its a fair lump to warm up.

If that's 5minutes driving, I would be changing the thermostat.
Leaving a V6 idling takes far longer than that in my experience, even with everything working properly.

I reckon its about 3 miles from my house to get up to temp in the morning in my (now crushed, probably) 3.0l, which probably works out about 5 mins.  Obviously, other people's journeys will differ :)

The Zafira is about 10miles. I think that does need a new stat ;D
