Gained confidence with VW, jacked and on stands today. Inspected rear pads, needs new ones soon. Might fit new discs too, looks all straight forward to change. Shocks look easy, 3 bolts, 2 at top one at the bottom.

First VCDS scans, had to double up my USB extension cable for it reach the car from my garage PC.

Also stuck some new Bosch Aero wiper blades on it.

Changed the aux belt and washed it  :)
Why did you wash the aux belt? :D
Because there were too many wine stains on it  :D

If doing anything other than reading, can you get car closer.  I think even VCDS  still uses an element of bit bashing, which I suspect might cock up if you're out of spec on the USB side.

How long you talking?

1x5m and 1x4m I think, I've only done reading so far. Full scan, the dived into Engine stuff and read loads of "extensions" I think, tapping tick boxes brought back data for each item. Tapped about 6 for loads of info on the DPF.

Plan on weekly checks to monitor how DPF does, but appears fine over last 3k. But I want to monitor how quickly the soot builds up and how much ash that generates.

The hex-com dongle has a microprocessor in it (powered from the car) that talks to the k-line(s) so I don't think a long USB lead will hurt comms to the car.

Whether the usb comms are affected may be a different matter though.

Changed the stat. Dropped the bastid bolt, due to cold fingers. Took about an hour to get it out from under the a/c compressor.
Took the n/s camcover off and cleaned everything up, ready to fit new camcover and gasket tomorrow if the weather stays dry.
Was hoping to do both jobs this afternoon, but the cold weather and light starting to go convinced me to stop.
Experience tells me if I try to rush it to finish the job quickly, something will go wrong.

I've just spent 20 minutes staring at the broken and new air fittings, and still haven't decided how to accommodate the differences because my feet are so cold.

I'm going  early, and she can shout at me tomorrow.
