Windscreen glare
« on: 05 April 2011, 11:47:49 »

Does anyone have a remedy to stop the dashboard reflection onto the windscreen? In bright sun it is almost like a net curtain (and yes the glass is clean and I have scrubbed the vinyl with a scourer to attempt a matt finish). I can't believe I am the only one that has this problem.

You're not the only one with the problem ::) :D

But I'm yet to find an effective way of curing it so just have to peer through

Try wearing polarising sunglasses. They make a huge difference, almost like the windscreen has disappeared.

Or, try covering the dash with black velvet or felt.

I had the same problem until my windscreen broke and was replaced with an RAC Autoglass screen, for some reason the dash doesn't reflect as badly.

I found some dash cleaner (Carplan Dash Valet, Matt finish cleaner) that makes the finish matt and reduces the glare.  Doesn't stop it completely though, but it does help. I also use good old fashioned vinegar and paper to clean the screen on the inside so that there is no 'polish' to reflect off the surface of.

Cheers

As mentioned above, polarised sunglasses are the way to go. I have polarised prescription sunglasses and hardly notice the glare at all when it's sunny. 8-)

We have that trouble too, my daughter has a habit of putting a newspaper on the dash, looks like a Head Up Display!  >:(
