Best way of removing year old baked on bird poo...
« on: 03 September 2014, 20:21:01 »

... like this...

Have resorted to using one of those Helfrods fly remover sponges with plenty of hot soapy water, but it's taking forever, and getting nowhere fast :-\

The stuff has been on there long enough to stain the paint, but am hoping that some G3, followed by Autoglyms resin polish/wax stuff should sort them out... it's getting the solid stuff off first which is the issue :-\

I'd guess getting it wet and keeping it wet would help.. let it soak for a while.  Foam lance as it's flat panels..

Post the pic here and once they've finished having a panic attack someone will know: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk

Jet wash..?

Leave a wet rag on it over night to soak in. Then jet wash, wash with two bucket method and car shampoo, dry, clay, polish megs scratch ex2, auto glym srp, wash again to remove polish residue in gaps etc, then wax. Takes about 3days. ;D

I think you will find that it is tree sap of some sort rather than bird poo. Which probably makes it stickier, but less yucky I suppose.

Would a clay bar work better/quicker?

first step is to cool the paint in shadow..

thenfor road dirt like diesel spills and for tree especially pine drops cleaning thinner (be careful) expensive cleaning thinner not cheapo celulosic (from the paint shop and warn them to give the correct type)..    pour on the area and let it work.. then clean slowly with your finger nail..

for bird poo..
spray water on the surface for few minutes.. then put a totally soaked wet towel on the poo and wait 15-20 minutes.. (dont wipe with the cloth)

then spray wd40 on it..  and around it to oil the surface..

now with your finger nail (a good quality clear coat is always harder than the finger nail when cold) slowly scratch the particles .. when enough is moved pour some water on it again

and a warning : when a bird poo drops on the clear coat which is baked under the sun even an hour is enough for it to "drill" into the clear coat :(

for that reason use paint protector polishes monthly at least also it will help to attract less dust and mud

A good one I found is the Dettol surface cleaner, as mentioned not in strong sunlight. Spray it on & once the the poop starts to disolve lightly brush & soak away.  :y

Forgive the vagueness, but I read a review some time ago that Meguiars had some magical potions in their range.

Some detailing friends of mine recommended this stuff to another friend for removing stuck on tar, bugs, crud etc.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autosmart-TARDIS-Tar-and-Glue-Remover-Car-Valeting-1-l-/301272433993

Probably work on bird poo, too.  Apparently it's the dogs danglies..
