Dead Range Rover V8

Went to go out in it last night. Turned the key - nothing - no lights, dead as a dodo.

Nothing serious wrong with this one though.  ::)

When I saw the headlight switch in the "on" position, and realised I couldn't get in it because the seat was so far forward, I realised that SWMBO had something to do with it's demise!!

The rather large battery is now on charge. You'd have thought such a Chelsea tractor would have some means of turning it's lights off after so long ;D

Bloody Hell James, that scared me for a little bit.  :o

With the recent bad luck you have had recently.  :'(

Glad it's nothing serious.  Is there no 'Lights On Warning Buzzer'?

Should have a warning chime when lights are on, mine did.  :-\

Just hope it don't start playing silly beggars when you've recharged it, as some tend to do  :-X :-X :-X

Alarms, central locking and immobilisers(all part of the same system) were temperamental even when new and reliable. Now they're a real crapshoot as to whether it will work at all. Totally flattening the battery will not help.

It could be, then again is bloomin complicated R/Rover BECM's. They sometimes loose the synch with the fob if there's a power loss, then you have the fun of trying to remember where you put the EKA code & then find out how you put the damned code into the car without cocking it up and having to leave it 1/2 an hour before trying again. Been there several times but eventually managed to get it going. Have a look in the handbook it should give info on how to go about doing it.

I had "keycode lockout - engine disabled" upon refitting battery.

I've entered the code and she's fired up fine, all electrical systems seem happy enough and it now unlocks/locks on the key :y

The only error I'm getting now is "window not set" but I'm sure that's an easy fix, I'll read up, cheers for the info :y

A Rangie with no electrical faults? Nah. You just haven't noticed what's wrong with it yet.


If it is a P38 I've got a Nanocom to read / reset all codes etc. Welcome to pop round or I can when passing next.

Window Not Set fix = take window all the way down and then all the way up and keep the button down until it says Window Set. :) Then do the other 3!

Depends on the engine you've got. There are 3 variants on the P38: M51 diesel; GEMS; THOR.

I've got unlock codes for the diesel and the GEMS. If it is GEMS then it should reset them. You might get lucky in that the petrol is probably ODBII compliant. None of the other modules are on the P38.
