Disability road tax question
« on: 23 February 2013, 09:52:39 »

My new shed's tax disc is showing an expiry date of 1st december 2013 but it is marked up as disabled.

What do I do here to get a normal tax disc ?

Will I have to pay anything or is it just a case of popping down to the tax office ?

I have checked the various data bases
Its still registered to the previous owner but the insurance is in my name

TIA

Effectively you will have to re-tax it & pay as the nil tax for the previous disabled person is void. You will need the V5 to be changed from 'Disabled' to 'PLG'. and then tax it as normal.

Post Office wont help, needs Tax Class change, forms to fill out etc, quickest way is to pop in to the Local DVLA re register the car in your name and they will give you Tax there and then.

Also not really a good idea to drive around with disabled Tax unless its your Car and your are disabled can cause Police and Insurance issues.

I bought a Range Rover a few years ago with Disabled tax, had to go to my local DVLA office to sort it out. They change the log book to reflect PLG then taxed it.

Yeh, just found all that out chris  :-[

The insurance doc's just turned up so the car is insured in my name now but all databases still show it as in the prevous owners name and still showing as taxed in her name but insured in mine.

Looks like i'll have to get my arse to the local dvla office on monday morning, cash in the 3 months left on the old car and then get my hand in my pocket for the rest  :'( :'( :'(

Think i'll change my name to ...........GonadLESS when she gets home  :'( :'( :'(

easy way to not have to change the tax class is
become a fat person and claim d.l.a then you can leave it as scrongers free tax class,

And when they close all the local offices jobs like this will become much more difficult and a more lengthy process..... :( :( :(
