Title: Solar sensor low output
Post by: grifter on 27 June 2021, 14:26:07
Just had my AC fully vac'd and refilled after replacing the condensor, today noticed it's not working, the compressor not kicking on when you turn off eco. Checked pressure looks fine, comp still able to turn ok. Put "My Naff Code Reader" on it and got low solar sensor output left and right.

Would that be why it is not working? Cleared codes wondering if that might give me a clue but still no chilled air.

Thanks

G

That's the sensor on the dash.

You can bridge relay 60 pins 30 and 87 for testing purposes but only do this with the engine running. This will allow you to confirm that the clutch engages and that the system fundamentally works.  ;)

Cheers DG, will check it  :y

It won't stop the compressor kicking in. And if historic codes, that's not unusual.

The sensor is just used to more accurately maintain the cabin temp.

Is the outside temp sensor working reasonably accurately?  Is the ECC asking for the compressor?

Replaced the outside temp sensor not that long ago, reading about 18 oC for today, which is about right.

How do I check if the EEC (?) is asking for the compressor?

pins 30 and 87 bridged, both front fans came on, comp didn't, had eco off and on LO for temp.

Climate settings irrelevant.

Was the engine on?

Was the engine running/ignition on 2?
Ignition on 2 and you should hear a loud thunk from the compressor as the fans kick in ;)

Engine running and you should see the clutch face spin.

Either a wiring issue between the relay and the compressor or a dead compressor clutch.

Yes engine was on as instructed.

That's exactly what I was watching for, but only fans came on. I never heard the compressor clutch energise.

With the relay in fitted, does it click briefly when you first turn the ignition on?

Also, have you checked fuse 15 under the steering column. It should be 20 Amps ;)

Panic over, I had a look underneath, I think the multiplug onto the compressor must have popped off when I was cleaning under there. It's not the tightest of fits that plug. It wasn't hanging off, just needed pushed back in to connect.

Easier than swapping out the compressor  :D
