In summary, I'd take the consensus as avoid the bottom of the barrel - potentially with plastic or thin metal bits - as it's just false economy. There's a variety of mid-range options just a slight notch up the price scale, but with the benefit
for me of
your real world experience to give names to look for.
I'm not paying daft amounts for one, as it's a routine enough item that's been widely used across different cars, which means there's plenty of options. Other folks can if they want, I've no problem with that. Maybe they've got a high-revving, turbo-nutter engine, or they're just really pernickity, but mine's just a standard engine that came out of the Ellesmere Port plant by the thousands. Nor am I buying one in from the States - partly because of that, partly because I don't want to wait a month for it to maybe turn up, partly because I don't want customs forms, and partly because I disagree with needlessly adding to the global logistics chain. I'm not kidding myself that I'm saving trees or anything, it's just the last resort isn't my first choice
