More rust grinding, converting, painting and undersealing on Project 2  :'(

On the upside, the nearside sill is pretty much rust free with just a surface patch which ground back to solid metal  :y

I know the offside isn't going to be the same story though  :-[

From personal experience I always find the near sides worse than the off sides.

Fixed the thermo fuse in the mum bus aircon compressor, surprisingly easy and no need to de-gas or remove the pump

Intended to fit wishbones but spent much of the day trying to remove o/s/f locking nut. No chance, done up windy gun tight, key knackered by windy gun no doubt. Tried hammering on smaller socket etc. but it wont budge.
Going to buy one of those reverse threaded socket things today. If that doesn't work , a new set of cobalt drill bits, it is.

I have the full set(of six, I think) of reverse threaded sockets, and most of the time they still don't fit. When they do the success rate is poor. If the locking nuts have a rotating collar, you will need to remove it before trying the socket. A sharp chisel and some applied Anglo-Saxon are required.

Personally, I wouldn't bother buying the sockets but would go straight to grinding the head off the bolt with a die-grinder and carbide burr, or welding a socket to it.

Knocked the locking ring off yesterday using an old screwdriver as a chisel. It broke off surprisingly easily. Don't have access to welding gear, so will probably try grinding it off or drilling it out.  :y

Unfortunately I can push a screwdriver through the sill on the offside by the jacking point, have a new 'pattern' sill to weld on in readiness though.  :y

It's a tedious job, but it's even worse when you do it after various other failed methods.

Changed the headlamp level sensor and the transmission mounting bracket that I cracked when I forgot to remove the axle stand after the oil change.
