when my car is cold all fine,
(well except for headlight & suspension issues but there in other posts please view if you can help...)
After about 30mins of hard use or light 60mph cruse up motorway over 20/30miles the car after i stop then feels like i have 2 flat rear tyres feels like a thudd from 1st & 2nd gear from the back of the car?? some times doesnt happen like my last trip from worcester to leeds no probz but even after a 7mile drive threw lanes to malvern was enuf that when i stopped at junction started doing it again just really odd... any ideas?? it has covered 220.000 police miles 17.000 private & ive had it for last 3000miles giving it a right kicking but it was doing it day i picked it up.....
ive got 2ltrs of LSD spec oil for it any idea how much it needs....
could it be low on oil or any other issues??
because when i do drift her around sometimes both wheels drift nicely but next roundabout then 1 wheel will light up??? but when it does that its not thudding either...??

You got any backlash or lift in the diff input shaft?

All feels quite tight but i check it tho... odd that it only does it when its hot in 1st 2nd & reverse?? but main issue atmo is suspension :(

All I can think of is if the clutch release bearing is knackered or if one or more of the springs on the clutch pressure plate has weakened or snapped and sending the shock down the propshaft, unless my 1st idea in that you have a prob with ur diff.
Other than that, I dont know

:-\ ummm i ask the question but really odd why only in 1st 2nd revese & not 3rd 4th 5th??? sumone said the lsd may be snatch plates that could be grabbing when not needed or shuddering /slipping &maybe new oil would cure it?? ant idea how much oil in a rear diff??

Might be worth sending a PM to 2Woody. He knows about LSD,s including rebuilding them. If its done over 200,000 miles, mostly in police duty, it wont have much life left in it imo.
Lower gears will put more force through the transmission.Higher gears less so,as the car already has built up its own momentum.

i get hang of this site soon ;) i try find 2woody & ask the question cheers! only good thing about car is had a £4200 brand new 3.0MV6 engine fitted 4000miles before old bill sold it! its done only 20.000miles on new lump! shame they didnt look after everything else!!

I'd try to establish if it has LSD first. There are people on here who can decode the VIN and tell you...
-
aye, pm me your reg (& vin if handy, may or may not need it) and ill look up its factory spec :y

see look - we're a nice bunch on here.....

Every LSD Mig Ive driven gives a slight thud or thump under certain pull away conditions or gearbox drops, even low mileage ones, nothing major though, but not to sure how bad yours is doing it. As for your other issues, probably best to start with an oil change, not sure what LSD oil you have, but from empty fill up with a litre (From memory) of Fuchs BOA90 then top up with normal VX diff oil, putting too much LSD oil in can make the plates too slippery.
Good luck with it.
Chris.

Alright Chris, ive bought 2ltrs of Carlube EP75 W90 Hypoid gear oil fully synthetic (spec API GL-4,GL5 ,ZF TE MLO5A) & States on back including limited slip diffs so hopefully it be ok...???
According to the spec sheet it has an lsd & once jacked up both spin if i spin 1 wheel,
unlike my cdx which 1 went clock 1 anti clock so defo has one,
Car drives fine but odd shudder & thudding like 2 flat tyres from a standing start in 1st reverse & sometimes into 2nd gear... but not all the time intermitant... car drifts lovely spinning both wheels but now & again only spins inside tyre closest to bend... maybe once oil changed it will sort it i hope... Hopefully meet up in the future somewhere...

cannot comment on the Carlube stuff, sounds like normal gear oil to me, reckon your still need an LSD addertive, still reckon an oil change is in order (220K)?
As for the shuddering, thinking out loud now, starting to think axle oscillation when the LSD kicks in, hows the rear suspension set up, worn or loose, or furbed bushes at the rear?, probably wont happen at higher speeds and high speed gear changes. :-\ :-\
-
Anything "hypoid" or with two friction ratings on it will poison the diff plates ( permanent ) and should not be used.
you need the correct Vx oil ( try AndyC ), which is I believe a straight 90-weight oil.
add the friction modifier first.

looking under the rear the 2 bushes at rear of diff that hold it to the chassis look like originals & may have possably split?? with a pry bar all seem ok under what i would call normal mot play to pass.... Just odd how when the car is cold nothing drives fine nut when hot plays up & thudds...
Does any body know where... or have any of the genuine diff oil & how much....??? Vauxhall quoted me £12+ per bottle & they have to order minimum of 12 bottles & i gota pay for all of them £120+vat i told guy to break off....
-
was that AndyC ?
-
I always used BOA90LS in mine from opie oils.
Worked very well.
-
yep - that's a "straigh-90" :y
-
was that AndyC ?
Na was local Bicknells useless Vauxhall dealers & when i asked him for the correct spec oil (as i was given the gm part number from someone else a while ago) He took ages & when i asked how much i needed he didnt know...
then all he said was...
like a jumped up little 16year old kid....
that part numbers now changed mate its....(watever it was)
but its not in stock.... special order to get it.... minimum of 12 bottles.... about £10/£12 per ltr plus vat was £120ish plus vat!... break OFF!!
Can andyC get the genuine gm stuff or have any in stock?? at end of month im going to try sort out a trade discount card but how do i do that???

AndyC is a parts man at a main agent

From Vx you have to buy the standard diff oil plus a seperate friction modifier.
From memory you need a small bottle of the modifier per 250mm and hence four needed.
And also hence why I went down the BOA90LS route!
