If your after a nice facelift model then have a look in the for sale section josh usually has some nice examples :y

As for the question in the title of your post it is personal preference, mine is auto due to doing 30-40K a year mainly on the motorway so i say AUTO is best ;D ;D

;D thanks Dave...I'll have to slip you another £50.

When it comes to auto v manual, it really uis down to personal preference. I prefer manual, so that's why I waited for a 2003 2.6 Elite manual in black to come along, took a long time...but that's all I wanted. I also have a 2003 3.2 Elite auto estate, it's a nice car to drive, but I don't think I could live with an auto all the time.

There are some questions which have no right or wrong answer .........

Blonde or Brunette for example  :o

Personal preference, simple as that

My impression (from very limited experience) is that autos are only good for 150k miles & then then you're into bills of £2k to replace .. so if you can get a lowish mile auto and don't do excessive miles .........

its got to be auto..it suits the nature of the vehicle. migs are comfortable cruisers, exec, wafting vehicles that are suited best to laid back driving style and enjoy the comfort also if you are considering towing with a mig and there is isnt many better for the money! i find it easier with auto :)

Thats news to me.  The AR25/35 will take you to the moon and back, several times.  Haven't heard of many AR35's to have died before the X30 tbh.

IMO, I have an Auto, my last one was an Auto.  I am piggy in the middle as I prefer Manuals, but the Omega (with a 6pot) lends itself so nicely to an Auto Transmission.  Manual's are noticeably quicker.  Anyone who says not, is a liar, or has never driven one.

What the.!  :o :o :o :o

Costs about £100 for a replacement box, and DIY its free, even at a garage is only a 2 hour job with a lift, so £200-300 max!  :-?

as long as you can drain/replace the transmission fliud and filters regularly then an auto box should last indefinitely,  :) unless you somehow put it in reverse whilst travelling along the m40 ::)

on older mercs the atf and filters were a 40k service item, newer ones are sealed for life, hence and old merc will still drive long after the body has rusted off, where as a new one will (probably) get binned through box failure before it reaches 100k. same story with fords. mk2 granada box will do 2-300k and a couple of seasons banger racing, a mk3 box will be dead by 100k. had 4 mk3 granadas previously, and not one had its original box in :-/

if your buying the car for effortless driving get an auto, if you want to drive it,get a manual. :y
