Turns over but no spark
« on: 22 March 2009, 17:05:58 »

Hi
I'm a new member - need some help or advice.
1997 Omega (2.5  petrol auto)  - drove it ok on Friday night, no symptoms then, parked it up, but today it turns over but there's no spark at all. I called out the breakdown, who tried it with a battery booster pack, still turns over, but still no spark.  The immobiliser and alarm work as they should.
Mr. Breakdown suggested the coil pack....

I just did the paperclip test and got 12 (diagnostic start) and 31 (no rpm signal) - I expected those, but no other codes appeared.

Can anyone give any advice what the problem might be - would it be the coil/dis pack ?  If so, how much would I expect to pay for that to be fixed ?

Thanks for any help anyne can offer.

Phil

Ah - thanks both.  I'd assumed that would show up a fault code, but I guess not ?   Any idea what sort of damage to my wallet that might create ?  I've previously used Mastertec in Romford who have done good work for me, but I've just  into London and might need to go more local.... just looking for an idea of a reasonable price for the job.

Cheers

Do it yourself, easy enough :y There's a guide on here in the Maintenance section. Should be about £40-£50 for the sensor from VX on a TC.

cheapest way is do it yourself - see the guide

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174321688

I'm assured it takes about 15 minutes to do.  also recommended to use original VX parts - pattern seem to be unreliable

Wouldn't mind giving it a go but where I have to park there's no way I can do repairs so I might have to get it done....  if I did I guess I'm looking at at least an hour's labour then, if it takes 15 mins. ?  :y

Now I've realised that the crank sensor was only replaced 10 months ago.... is it likely it could go again so soon ?

Depends how the wire was routed, if its close to the exhaust manifolds it could melt  ;)
