General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 21 July 2013, 19:34:02 »
All most finished the wiring on the bus. All electrics now work first time everytime........ Well almost, both rear light units were completely buggered. So much corrosion and the badly worn bulb sockets prompted me to just say "they're crap I'll just buy new ones". Problem is if I by chinshin made after market ones they will be crap still. So I bit the bullet and got genuine Hella replacement ones with proper glass lenses instead of faded plastic ones. Thing is quality costs. Chinshin after market guaranteed till the first screw threads about 40 quid the pair. Hella made by the gods, scented by  Mermaids and delivered in a silk and fur lined box by Kierra Knightly and Megan Fox while U2 play on the front lawn............... 190 quid. The wife's gonna kill me......... She's just seeded that front lawn.  :-[

Still at least I've proven my loom and all MY recent connections work. Just let down by Mr Chinshin  :'( :'( :'(

Continued the rewire of the the VW bus. Almost finished now. Much neater lots less wires every where and I stand a better chance of all electrics working rather than 50% in a random order.  :-[

Rear pad, rear discs, hand brake shoes, rear calipers and rear springs replaced. I wouldn't mind but I only set out to do the rear ruddy pads. Oh and snapping a brake pipe was just the icing Still it brakes and rides like it should now.

Currently have a very busy bumblebee nest in the garden. Also a friend of the outlaws rescued a swarm and they are now living in a hive in the garden. However if you have to buy all the kit new it's quite pricey and you've always got the risk they will just fly off

Omega General Help / Re: snapped rear coil spring

Cheers for the offer but my back was against the wall. I need to get the car back on the road by Monday. Simple disc and pads turned in to a nitemare. Not only are the springs bust but both my rear calipers have had to be replaced. I don't think this car has ever had a set of rear pads from new ( I certainly don't have that job listed in the service history) I had to cold chisel the inner pads out of the calipers and when they did come out they took most of the piston with it. A right shocking state of affairs.

I can't tell about the rusty old set but the other springs you put up are not air suspension ones. I've bit the bullet and ordered new from VX.

Just for info. The KYB springs are no longer available. It seems they were just using stock up. Those stockiest's listing them on Ebay are doing so without actually having the parts on the shelf.

Just looked on KYB website. They don't list rear coil spring with air assisted suspension. Have you got a part number?

Is the KYB part for the air springs?

Ok guys need some info. I've got a snapped rear coil on the Mig. I want to keep the air suspension.  Are my only options for a new spring genuine? They are 240 quid for the pair and as the ladt genuine set only lasted 20k miles I loath to spend that again.

Well I spent a relaxing evening in front of the telly drinking tea and making a new loom for my Camper. Oh the joys of owning old bags of poo. The insulation on the old wiring had more in common with Bakelite  ::)
