Omega General Help / Orange light on!
« on: 08 February 2012, 21:40:57 »
Hi all.
I had a new front section of exhaust fitted (down pipe and cats) after damaging the old one on a speed hump.
After about 2 weeks the orange engine management light came on. As the handbook states this is actually a "emissions warning lamp" I took it back to where it was fitted and had it checked out, they found no problems with the exhaust and took the car to an MoT station for an emissions check which was fine.
They reset the light and all was well until another 2 weeks later when the light came on again. Thats been a while now and its still on but the car is running perfectly.
I'm assuming the problem is with the light as my brother had a similar baffling problem on his Astra.
Has anyone else had the same problem and does anyone know how to make the light go off as its bloody annoying and will surely put potencial buyers off if I decide to sell.
Thanks.
Steve.

Omega General Help / Thanks for the advice.... Here's a Tip!

Thank you to all who advised me a few weeks ago that the tubes where the spark plugs go being full of oil was nothing more serious than the cam cover gasket... Rocker gasket in old money, having gone. A couple of hundred miles after changing, all seems well.

Here's a tip some of you might find useful.

Obviously when this problem occurs you need to minimise the amount of oil that runs into the bores when the plugs are removed.

I simply used a trigger sprayer from an old kitchen cleaner bottle, inserted the pipe and sprayed it out into a cup. you have to pump it slow and allow time for the trigger pump to refill due to the thickness of the oil but I found it really effective. :)

Omega General Help / Brake Discs & Pads
« on: 23 September 2010, 09:23:13 »
 :-? Morning.
The Warning display on my car now says "Brake Pad" and on inspection through the spokes the front discs appear pretty scored too.
I dont want to pay silly Vauxhall prices. There are some really good buy's on Ebay ie Mintex discs & pads for £50 (I think these are a decent make?)
2 questions though, There are 2 sizes available 286 & 296mm. Not sure which one I need? (my car is 2002 2.2 cd auto)
Also they do not appear to have the sensors, I'm not bothered about that providing it does not interfere with the display, ie permanantly displaying that it needs new pads!?
I've changed discs before but not on this car, any horrors??

Omega General Help / Oil in plug "tubes"
« on: 09 August 2010, 18:37:49 »
When I serviced my 2002 2.2 Omega, I removed the HT bar thing only to discover the tubes down to the sparkplugs were full of oil.
I assumed some clumsy person had spilt the oil when it filling but now after about 1000 miles I removed the HT bar again and yes, full of oil again!
Its running beautifully and not using any oil.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and any ideas where the oil is coming from??
Thanks, Steve.
