Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Omega Head Unit anybody ?
« on: 12 May 2009, 23:06:14 »
So whos going to be the first to try to graft one of our new Astra head unit upgrades into the Omega?

this is the later shape with the vertical centre line, but apart from that, looks as though it would fit. Although CANBUS in operation, it will take a switched live from the ignition, and the Navigation can operate in as similar fasion to the portable ones, so no worries about connections with that either.

Its going to be a tight squeeze - but I cant think of any features it doesn`t have

Dear All -

A big thanks must go to Peter (WEDS) who sent me a Vauxhall CID display to have a play with.

I think (?!) I am now able to reset the CID display back to its DELIVERY MODE so that it can then be programmed into the new car using the TECH2 programmer.

My problems is that I need a Guinea Pig to try this out on. If you have a old display that needs resetting before it can be re-used, please let me know.

If I have got this correct, it will now mean that all of those worthless and unprogrammable CID displays can now be used !!

There is a lot of confusion over these changers, and it is well documented about the number of different versions that are out there (I am aware of 11 types used by Vauxhall) and they are not all compatable with each other.

As nobody seems to have a definitave list, I propose that we start one, as it would help those that are having compatability issues, so here goes.

If you have a Blaupunkt CDC2 fitted in your car, can you please add some details here, something along these sort of lines

Make / Model / Year of  Car                  Omega V6 2009  etc

Make / Model of Head Unit fitted            Blaupunkt CAR250  etc

10 digit part number from the label        7 123 456 789

Vauxhall part number from the label      91 123 456

No, you are not alone.

But lets face it, if the standard sound in any car was any good, I for one would be out of a job !!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Using Tech2 to install a radio
« on: 29 January 2008, 08:29:04 »
Dear all, not really an Omega issue, but with such a wealth of technical experts out there . . . .

I know that a few of you have access to Tech2 and this is a request of those that are familiar with installing the later range of stereos, CD30 etc into late model and current model Vauxhalls.

We spend a lot of time reprogramming and resetting CD30`s back into delivery mode so that they can be reprogrammed into a new vehicle using Tech2 - the problem is that we are finding that more and more Vauxhall main dealers up and down the country do not have the ability to read their own Tech2 instruction manuals, and they generally appear unable to perform this fairly simple task.

If you have Tech2 and the knowledge of such things, it might be an idea to list your location and contact details - whether you are workshop based, or what area you cover if mobile, and I will certainly pass your details on to the customers who`s radios I am reprogramming.

Please don`t turn this thread into a slagging match over how poor your local service agent is, can we just add the usefull ones here please?  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / How NOT to install ICE !!
« on: 28 January 2008, 13:35:48 »
Due to the number of bad installations we see on a regular basis, we have started to show them in the hope that others may learn how not to do it !

Worth a look if you have a few minutes spare

Many have asked if the later Vauxhall head units CD30, DVD90 etc can be used in the Omega, so I thought I would post this on here as a quick guide.

As a general guide (excluding telephone head units meaning that any upgrade is a compatability nightmare with displays) if your stereo model number has 4 digits - CDR2005 etc, then it can only be replaced by another head unit with four digits CCR2006 etc. You cannot put a 2 digit stereo into a four digit hole.

The earlier three digit stereos, CDR500 etc, had the larger style 10 pin ISO top block for the display output althouth the protocol language was essentially the same as the four digit ones.

The Vauxhall four digit stereos CDR2005 etc, had a MIni ISO block on the top with smaller pins and plugs for the display and with a clever bit of wiring and earlier three digit stereo could be made to fit and work, although the effort was never worth it due to the lower performance of the earlier three digit units.

The later CD30, CD40, CD50, DVD90 CANNOT BE USED in the Omega
Although the shape may physically fit, the Quadlock connection on the back  will not, but the biggest problem is that the protocol laguage is vastly different as the two digit models also communicate with the engine ECU for their coding and run the displays and external connectivity via Canbus - A feature the Omega is lacking !

An aftermarket stereo can always be made to fit and connect, as most of the aftermarket stereos have their own displays and will accept the steering controls function via additional interfaces.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Tech2 Programmer up for sale
« on: 22 February 2011, 23:13:07 »
We recently aqquired a genuine Tech2 programmer from a Suzuki dealership that has gone belly up, that has the Suzuki software loaded onto the PCMCIA memory card, but after some investigations, we have discovered that the programmer is not quite as powerfull as the workshop based system that we are currently using, and so we are looking to get rid of it rather than upgrade it any further ourselves.

New programmers are prohibitively expensive, thats if you can locate them, and second hand ones are exceptionally rare and do not come up often - the last genuine one I saw reached over £1500 on ebay.

One of the ODB plugs has a cracked outer casing, and the carrying case also has a crack in it, but the unit itself appears to function perfectly.

I know how valuable the Tech2 programmers can be in the Vx world, and with a bit of investment in the correct software that is very readily available (Genuine Vx software around £250), this may prove to be a usefull tool for someone out there in "OOFerland".

Looking for offers around the £800 mark for it if anyone is interested
