I have just finished doing the timing belt in pretty sweltering heat and I am a novice.  I followed the OOF Cambelt DVD to the T and tightened the new Water Pump bolts to 25 NM.  I was flushing coolant following instructions in the Maintenance guide at OOF.

Water was trickling from the area of the water pump to the floor.  It was a fast drip and slowly became a trickle.  I completed the flush and did a short drive with fresh coolant.  There is minor leak still apparent.

Questions:

1.  Is it air in the system causing some minor leak and would it get better with time?
2.  I am newbie and it would be pretty disheartening to remove the Timing belt cover again.  Is it possible to reach the water pump bolts without removing timing cover with an off set wrench, etc.?

Thanks and any other comments.

I was having issues with my Cadillac Catera 2001 3.0L V6 which is a version of the equivalent Omega.

I checked performance curves for Bosch for my alternator by duly reviewing the pulley ratios for crankshaft and alternator pulley. The standard Idle on my engine without Aircon on is 500RPM and with Aircon on it is 625RPM.

As can be seen with the attached chart the Alternator/Generator delivers virtually no amps and if you have idle at 500RPM and got your accessories and it is a hotter day you will see the voltage start dropping on extended idle or stop and go.

I installed a 1.7" pulley (nominal 1 3/4") versus the standard 2.21" (nominal 2 1/4") and the curve shows how it will help stabilize the electrical load versus generation.  The chart Axis are Y-Axis Amps output of alternator and x-Axis is the Engine RPM.  To not confuse I have converted x-axis to engine RPM whereas Bosch charts show the Alternator RPM.

It clearly shows that for my Idle conditions will improve as follows,

Idle no-Aircon at 500RPM ---> From 0 Amp to almost 35 AMP+
Idle with Aircon at 625RPM --> From ~ 40 AMP to ~80 Amp

Any comments as I believe it may rob a little bit of power (haven't noticed any and car is very happy).

Hope it is of help or generates ideas.

PS:  To compensate for smaller pulley I used a slighly shorter Auxiliary Drive Belt to ensure good tension with the auto tensioner and the following part number,

Gates Part Number:       K060790
Interchange Part Number: 6PK2005

Any suggestion to change the serpentine/drivebelt auxillary without getting under the engine on jacks would be much appreciated.  My alternator/generator bolts are so well seized I cannot get near these.

I believe it all revolves around looping the Air Injection cross-over pipe.

Regards.

I have a 2001 Catera base model (I believe equivalent to an Omega B Saloon Model 3.0L V6) with about 160,000km or 100,000 miles.

I have lately started noticing a clunk noise when I shift from park to reverse and then from reverse to drive, normal backing out of one's driveway.

Do the Cateras have a Universal joint or yoke assembly that can be replaced as I was told my universal joint may be going?

I have searched compnine.com and rockauto as well as acdelco but cannot find a part number.

Any help in comments as to the following,

- Safety or driveability wise how serious is this issue
- Fix suggestion with part number (Vauxhall number is OK)  if possible please
- Is it a home repair for a hobbyist some some tools with jack and jack stand

Regards and I will be happy to clarify if it is not clearly described.   :-[
