SAI is Secondary Air Injection.  There is an air pump in near the fron wheel well and under ECU, etc., control it pumps fresh air into the exhaust for emission purposes.  Heats up O2s fast as unburnt stuff gets the cats red hot fast.  There is a one way valve between the right and left rubber couplings to ensure that hot exhaust does not come to the front or flow in the silver pipe at front.  This pipe should remain cool to touch always.  The rubber couplings kind of insulate the middle pipe from connections at exhaust manifolds.

OK I need to cut it out, too much rambling  :-[

Cheers and good luck. :y

Bit of a update peeps, i took  the pleneum off tonight and it stunk of petrol,i also found that it wasn'tsitting properly. all put back together but still have same problem ,i,ve also noticed that the  chrome pipe in front of the drive belt  gets red hot !! can any one explain why is this??? it has also blown the short  rubber pipe it connects onto, could this be the problem??
If I am not mistaken those are the exhaust gases coming forward.  There is obviously exhaust pressure (misfires, blockage, failure of the SAI one way valve on the SAI pipe, etc.).  It may be related to your overall stuff but it is quite disturbing!

Should identify which side rubber coupling has been blown and others may help better or have ideas too.

Cheers.

Sorry I believe Marks DTM Calib already addressed it.   :-[

330mm discs went under 17s on the ST, but if you are going V8 than surely the wheels would be either 18 or 19's?

362mm on the VXR vectra needs 19's

Replacement carriers are generally sold as part of the upgrade kit fairly sure if you are modifying the engine bay to fit a V8 adjusting a couple of caliper carriers will be childs play!

Guess it all depends if you want more area and more pistons or same area and more pistons?

Another thing that will need checking is bore size on the replacement discs as i would assume FWD front hubs have a different bore??
I am looking to go to 18" Ronals so anything that will go inside those is good. I think that for purpose the discs need to go bigger with more pistons in the caliper too????
Couldn't the wheel size change mess up your speedo and odometer!

Using standard discs but with upgraded caliper and pads which attach to existing carriage with the two standard Catera/Omega caliper mounting bolts.

People in North America have done the following with stock 16" and 17" front wheels with Cadillac Catera (sister of Omega),

There is also an excellent thread below that may be helpful,

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-catera-cimarron-forum/110285-gto-brake-swap-log-4.html

The above being GTo (V8) based adaptation seems suitable.  I believe the Monaro and GTO have much in common so you are already more knowledgeable than me.

People on the following forum also have resale kits at times for very cheap but get one with the GTO brake lines included,

Cheers and just in case it helps.

Right at the front of the engine, to the left of the battery, is a small almost S shaped hose, seems to be "sucking in air" from the small crack in it, replacement on order but can I still drive it ok? Sorry I'm so crap with anything mechanical :D
Perhaps you can pinpoint in the picture,

Appears like the Secondary Air Injection related but I don't know much about various UK models.

Misfire only at idle.Accelerates fine.
Electrical system is most stressed at idle.  Battery, charging system, weak coils or marginal/fouled plugs in my opinion.

Turn all auxiliary devices off like fans, radio, heater, etc., and see if the idle improves for battery and charging system check.

Cheers.

Yep, its 25Nm.

When fitting I torque them all up and then go round them all again as often the washer has relaxed
Now he tells us, just did mine at the weekend, 25nm. 30k since fitting. Had a miss fire/ grumpy start last week, only did it once, pedal trick revealed 0300 and 0304. Sure enough, cylinder 4 was loose to the point I could undo spark plug  by hand with soot all round the base  :-[ 2 and 4 also loose but no soot marks.

Changed them all anyway but I didn't go over them to re torque again.  :'(

Here for the sister of Omega (Cadillac Catera 2001) the Torque is specified as well at 19 Ft Lbs or 25 N-m.

Omega General Help / Re: Fumes from oil fill tube and dipstick pipe

Blow through the pipes to make sure they are clear.

But, all engines with have fumes visable udner such conditions due to blow by gases

I thank you for the comments.  Almost doing all jobs first time I am little bit voice of inexperience  :-[ or concern  :-? at times.  I have finished so far jobs on this car for timing belt, water pump, coolant flush, aux belt, aux tensioner, crankshaft pulley, oil pressure switch, alternator overdrive pulley, all brakes with front GTO swap and brake fluid refresh, rear coils and shocks, breather clean, throttle clean and normal oil and filter.  Almost all these with information and help from this forum. ;D ;D ;D

I reseated the Post throttle pipe on the breather box as well as recleaned the little hole on the breather box.  No fumes or anything while everything is running and obvious blow by some fumes when engine shut down and oil fill tube or dipstick tube viewed.

Regards.    :) ;)

Thanks for a quick reply.

The two prong Y breather pipe did get damaged when I removed it from Breather Box.  However theere was enough still left that I did a clean cut and was able to clamp snuggly.  Just wondering if it is getting blocked from stretching and heat and causing a partial block!  Has anyone come across this I wonder!

Cheers.

Omega General Help / Fumes from oil fill tube and dipstick pipe
« on: 17 September 2010, 21:39:23 »
I never used to see this but when I was checking my oil dipstick there were fumes floating out.  When I took the oil fill cap off I could see similar fumes.  I have done bit of work on the car to install Water Pump and timing belt, cleaned the breather system, and was wondering if it is caused by,

  -  Possible vacuum leak in not seating the plenum properly
  -  I see the right hand cam cover edge is little sweaty but not leak of visible significance
  -  I am having the Secondary Injection System acting up a bit too as covered in a separate thread (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1284399130)
  -  Was getting follower type tapping also from the right cam side intermittently (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1283521579) that does go away and I have currently oil lifters additive in the oil (Rislone and Wynn's Engine tune up), the oil is fresh and so is the filter

Any guidance or help appreciated. :-[
