You CAN change dust covers on track rod ends BUT it requires removing the nut/breaking the taper free .
at which point you may as well replace the TRE especially if your also removing the steering linkage for boots ,or replacement
then the tracking will need doing .

inspect the boots , if they are not split (allowing the ingress of water ,an MOT FAIL )  the leave them be  ;)

If there is any play in joints ,replace the track rods ,steering links etc ,anything on it's way out ,in one go ,then get tracking done  ;)

Car park dings wouldn't be a problem.  :y
Whilst it's probably better fuel economy wise than an Omega , :P I doubt I it could take the country lane corners well at 50 mph ,I'd probably end up ploughing fields   :-\ and I'm NOT a farmer , so ......"that's a NO from me and I'm out "

It probably drives like a 1960's tractor.  :D

Took one of the 3.2's in for a MOT today, and got some advisories. i.e track rod end ball joint dust cover damaged or deteriorated X2,. Also Steering linkage ball joint dust cover damaged or deteriorated. So took a look on ebay, but came away clue less, as it seems that there appears to be a range of sizes. Any advice as to the correct items would be appreciated. TIA :y

The Prince engine is a PSA BMW blob.

The earlier petrols had a Tritec engine developed with Chrysler ;)

Sure, but hot day and engine hot when you stop it, oil pressure is zero but coolant not, that was my fear...
Do you get hot days in Finland?  ;D

.....

Phoned Tesco to cancel, didn't even try to ask why, or offer a different price.

presumably loads on a continuous renewal so they don't need to be competitive  ::)

SWMBO has a 60 plate C3 Citroen 1600 petrol that has what I've been led to believe is a Mini engine. If it's the same, the water pump is only part time drive by the 'fan belt'. Never had any over heating issues though Citroen did a mod on the temp sensor because the car THOUGHT they were overheating & lit the dash up like a Christmas tree when it did. (doesn't have a temp gauge so who would know until it was too late?  ::))
