Mrs TheBoy is on one of her C&G courses this weekend, and the phone has been non stop all evening.  Which means I haven't had tea yet.

So, 11:30, sober, and rather starving.

Pizza in oven for 15mins, or nuke a pastie.  Or any other ideas?

With a few people arranging OOF items etc, would it make sense for the admins to set up an OOF online 'shop'?

Obviously a lot to work out, as monies would come in centralised, and have to be forwarded on etc, and possibly other pitfalls  :-/

With the Halfords set on offer once again, I thought it would be a good idea to compare these 2 sets from an Omega maintenence point of view.

This comparison is my own personal opinion from my own experience in owning both sets.

[size=14]Sockets:[/size]
Both sets include AF as well, but ignoring as not used on modern cars.
Halfords
1/4" drive: 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13mm
3/8" drive: 9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19mm
1/2" drive: 20,21,22,24,27,30,32mm + 17,19,21,23mm High Impact
1/4" deep sockets: 4,5,6,7,8,9mm
3/8" deep sockets: 10,11,12,13,14,15mm
1/2" deep sockets: 10,12,13,14,17,19mm
Torx sockets: E8,E10,E11,E12,E14,E16,E18,E20
Spark Plug sockets: 10 (16),14 (21)mm
Extension Bars: 1/2" x 5" wobble, 1/2" x 10", 3/8" x 3" wobble, 3/8" x 6" wobble, 1/4" x 4" wobble
Adapters: NONE
UJs: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive
Rachets: 1/4", 3/8", 1/4" drive.

High quality sockets, look well made, and I have not broken any despite over a year of abuse.  The standard sockets are a bit too shallow.  The E20 torx, as used on V6 crank, is possibly too weak, being only 3/8" drive.


Clarke:
1/4" drive: 6,7,8,9,10,11mm
3/8" drive: 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,19mm hex sockets plus 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,20,22mm 12 sided sockets
1/2" drive: NONE
1/4" deep sockets: 6,7,8,9mm
3/8" deep sockets: 10,11,12,13,14mm
1/2" deep sockets: NONE
Torx sockets: NONE
Spark Plug sockets: 16,21mm
Extension Bars: 1/2" x 5", 3/8" x 6"
Adapters: 3/8 to 1/4
UJs: NONE
Rachets: 1/4", 3/8", 1/4" drive.

A rather ill conceived set imho. Quality seems variable, definately below the Halfords set. You may have noticed a 1/2" drive rachet, yet no 1/2" drive sockets, nor a suitable adapter. There are some 1/2" AF sockets.  Like many sets, the Clarke is missing an 18mm socket needed to remove the caliper mounting bracket.

Got a couple of jobs done that I wasn't looking forward too...

Saturday, Omegatoy and I sorted his blowing exhaust manifold gaskets.  Much swearing and cursing, but easier than we expected, and we had a laugh.  Quickly did his oil, and did a flush and oil change on the tractor, which made it sound a little quieter :)

Today, fitted all the Bose into the MV6, and gave that an oil change (been neglected, and had done 5k on it, so way past its best).


Fixed a new coolant leak on the tractor as well.


Took them both out for a spin, and learned that the tractor really suits the box being in sports mode, and promptly set the tractor brakes on fire ::)

As expected, trying to run the ATI X300 in my Vista media center at full HD resolution was far from successful!

Needs to be PCI Express, half height, fanless, not power hungry, and capable of decent performance at 1920 x 1080, 32bit depth.

Any recommendations?

Cam timing now set properly, and A/C working again (thanks M-DTM and Matchless :y).

Changed the stat today. Old one looked OK physically, but not tractor heats up quicker, and runs around mid point on gauge (does creep up to 96/97 on a long uphill booting). Flushed coolant again while I have the bonnet up, so I know its got a good 50:50 mix of Vx Red :y

Thanks for your time yesterday.

Mr DTM, spent several hours on 'a 30 minute job' to reset the tractor cam timing. Yet another fantastic BMW design. Not!  Additionaly, thanks to you for letting me make your front room look like a PC workshop whilst I tested the MCE on your rather nice TV.  Which proved that an X300 ain't much cop at 1920 x 1080 ;D

Thanks to Mr Matchless for taking the time out from his little project  :o to check out my 'demister' :y


The journey back from Nottingahm was uneventful, returned over 40mpg, computer reckoned average spped was high 70s (must be wrong ::), so I would say that was a successful, if long, day.

For a 50Mb POP3 mailbox £6 per year  (yourlogon@omegaowners.com)
For 50Mb of webspace £6 per year (http://yourlogon.omegaowners.com)
Both above £10 per year.


Do you think these prices are about right?

If you have a techie Qs on this, please reply here, and either myself or one of the trialists will try to answer :y
