Omega General Help / Bearing worn but no play just a ticking noise
« on: 18 December 2021, 19:43:06 »
Decided to have a look at the front bearing today, and general front end inspection.

On the driver side, there was slight play at quarter to 3, but not up and down, noticed the track rod is worn so that'll be that.

Then passenger side the wheel has no play but theres a speed related clicking sound as I rotate the wheel. I'm suspecting that's the bearing but there's no play. I had read this can happen i.e. there is no play even when it's worn. Has anyone else found this with a worn bearing?

Omega General Help / Re: Pollen & Air Filters
« on: 15 December 2021, 13:43:34 »
Something I noticed about the pollen filter in the omega is it seems very slack where it sits, thought it was something I hadn't done right, but seems the same on my other omega I just bought. What's the point of a pollen filter when you can drive a bus round the gaps in it's holder?

Just noticed the battery tray bolt has been sheared off and the battery is loose, need a new clamp and remove the busted bolt. Soaking it in WD for a bit before attempting removal.

Other things needed so far:

replacement scuttle cover as it has a nice crack in it. Due to get a replacement this weekend.
Weatherstrip for scuttle cover (Suspecting this was not reinstalled after windscreen replacement (Worrying)) Although screen replacement looks done well.
Investigate clunking from front (Most likely the link pin)
Investigate droning sound, which actually sort of goes away with increased speed, not sure if bearing, hope it's not the diff as it's got a towbar.
Clean headlight reflectors

Gave it a basic wash so it looks more silver now! I haven't had the time (or the weather) to get it up on the ramp and give it a good once over yet.

Omega General Help / Re: Car cover recommendations

Just bought 2 x Sealey 3 layer all seasons XL cover, one for the Senator and one for the Omega, I need another one now as I have just bought another omega  :D

Yet to form a proper opinion on how well it's working, says it's weather proof and 3 layer breathable material, and has 3 under harnesses with clips to stop it blowing away (The sheet not the car!). It did survive the last bowt of storminess from Arwin, didn't blow away, and that's some feat in West Scotland (I've seen whole plastic tables uplifted and speared by outside concrete canopy stand on a typical winters night), even though the clips for the underneath straps are a bit flimsy.

Model number is SCCXL, which is the what you'll need for an omega sized car.

Omega General Help / Re: Rust treatment
« on: 30 November 2021, 22:51:33 »
I remember years ago I had a tin of US navy rust gel a friend of my Dad's got from the old polaris base up here, it was but it was decanted into an metal lyons syrup tin, and it ate right through the rust on the tin, so must have been good stuff, none of that water down shite youusually get! Garage I used to work in the guy had acquired a 2 pack chemical metal from the same place, it was two containers shaped like missiles, one red one black. We used it to fix a hole in a water pump housing, never leaked again!

Bonus being silver as it hides the dirt better lol, don't know why that is you'd think silver would really show dirt!

9 out of 10 Omegas ever made were silver.

Allegedly  :D

CoolI didn't really pick up on the joke there, makes sense as there are quite a few silver ones about.

Is that rare colour for an omega, or an elite, or both?

First job done, remove power sounder.  Noticed the scuttle cover is cracked as well, must of been when the windscreen was replaced, resulting in water leaking in through the crack and soaking that bit of foam to the nth degree. didn't remove it, but will when I've more time. Put tape over the crack until I get a replacement. Whoever had it off last also forgot to replace the rubber weather trim along the scuttle so water coming down the screen was pouring into the engine bay, nice touch, there was also beads of water on the power sounder connector terminals as the crack was right above this. Temp fix with tape over the join that the rubber trim would otherwise cover until I get a replacement rubber weather seal. General clean of mud and leaves out of the dark corners of the bulkhead where the inner wing meets it, nice conditions for holding moisture.

I tried Torque but I found it awkward to use & more geared to logging standing 1/4 mile times than diagnostics.

Scanmyopel is my personal favourite. (on an Android phone)

cool might give that a go if my other laptop software doesn't show anything.

p0420/p0430 cat efficiency codes?

What code reader? if it isn't capable of basic code reading then it is going to waste you time & money.

Have a read of the maintenance guide Fuel trim and Cat Efficiency codes explained

It was the torque app, it showed my o2 sensor fault on the other omega, so tried it to see if it brought anything up, i've got that unmentionable software on my laptop so will try that.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / EML Light and no fault code
« on: 21 November 2021, 01:13:15 »
This is on my elite, 02 plate, the EML came on, I thought ok the usual 02 sensor light, but upon using simple code reader there is no faults showing. Not the spanner light, the engine light is the one illuminated. I had read on the old forum someone mentioned it was something to do with the cat sensors being on the wrong way. I'e not really had the time yet to fully check this out, wondering if this could be the problem or something else?

Very nice.

Go on ......how much? :)

£1800....I checked the book price for a 200k miler and it was 1550 (Maybe a bit steep that price not sure), so since this has 89K thought not too bad a price all being said, originally wanted 2200 for it but I think he got the impression I could see it was needing some work and I was going to haggle.

It certainly seems that Omega prices are on the up. :y

Got in before they went stratospheric!

yes does look very nice indeed.the acne spots do seem to affect some of the silver ones but usually on the horizontal panels like bonnet roof or boot. yours looks pretty faultless.
what cavaliers have you got ? mk1 ? ?

There was some spots on the bonnet next to the top of the wing, which also had the spots. Never knew that was a problem with the silver ones, wasn't sure if it had had a bad paint job there.

It's the mk3's I've got, a runaround 1.8LS, and a diplomat I'm restoring back to it's former glory.
