Omega Electrical and Audio Help / trailer socket info
« on: 20 March 2009, 19:54:59 »
Hi Guys,
Fitted a towbar to my 2.5 omega estate (facelift) and now going to fit  electrics  for an N type socket. Can anyone tell me the best place to drill the hole for the wiring. there is a spare plug behind the jack, I am led to believe the car is supposed to be wired to accommodate the wiring of the electrics, could this plug be for the N type electrics? And how difficult would it be to fir an S type socket as well and what parts would be required to do this? Any help would be much appreciated. Already posted on general chat but thought I would have better luck here ;)

Omega General Help / Re: whistling engine
« on: 05 July 2009, 11:02:56 »
Many thanx for your replies. 6 plenumn chamber seals replaced when cover gaskets replaced. I wonder if I maybe caught one on refitting. I will get another set and replace just to be sure. Would this cause the sewing machine type rattle from the lifters though if it was drawing air? I have heard there is a special  oil additive for the lifters does anybody know what it is?

Omega General Help / whistling engine
« on: 04 July 2009, 21:31:55 »
Hi Guys and Gals,
My engine on the 2.5 v6 0mega estate is playing up, Firstly the revs have dropped from approx 550 to around 490 and appears a bit rumbley at idle (no knocks though). Secondly there is what appears to be a tappet noise on idle (sounds like all tappets not just one. sewing machine like noise lol)(worse on start up from cold and still audible when warmed up) thirdly, at idle or changing gears a loud whistle is coming from the engine (around the plenum area). engine starts and runs fine but wary of these engines due to bad reports. oil and water fine although fan comes on on short journeys and at idle (switches off when temp back to normal) Slight smoke from rear exhaust even when warm.cant tell if white or blue or both(not excessive) oil consumption appears normal and no water loss
Car has done 112k miles
Have replaced cam covers 2000 mls ago
have replaced oil twice in 3000 miles (was black when I got car)   cambelt reportedto have benn changed at 98 k. any ideas? is eng ready to decease? or could it be a gasket in the inlet side and a possible treament to the lifters to cure?
Thanx guys

Omega General Help / Horrible looking trim
« on: 16 June 2009, 12:10:22 »
Hi Folks,
Gotta mig 2.5 v6 estate with black trim. Trim is peeling and scratched and doesnt look very good espec round gearlever and door switches? What would it look like if I removed the coating (g/lever trim looks to have brown surface under black coating). Would a wooden trim set from another mig fit to the estate? If so any Idea of cost? Or could I have the affected trim recoated?Or how much to replace the black trim as a set? Just want the motor to look good.
Many thanks

Hi guys. in need of your assistance.
Cleaning breathers on 2.5 v6 est. ready to put plenum on but have 2 hoses dont know where they go. 1st one is the little vacuum elbow at rear of plenumn. second one os the long pipe that comes off the air intake hose on the passenger side. Large pipe that fits onto plenum, smaller bore pipe fits onto valve at front  (idle speed adjuster valve)then there is the long thin pipe that comes off the larger pipe (seems to extend to rear of engine) any ideas?
1st one sounds like vac pipe to rear multi ram, does it have 180 degree rubber u bend on the end? Or right angle?
2nd sounds like feed for icv on side of plenum if i understand your description correctly?

Maybe post a pic...

small one is shaped like u  bend. 2nd one attaced to air intake pipe long, turns at right angle then u bend. cant post piccy.im afraid

Omega General Help / guages how accurate?
« on: 24 October 2008, 14:41:33 »
Hi there,
Can anybody tell me how accurate the temp guage is on my v6 2.5 est
temp guage reading 82-85 degrees, thermostat according to data opens at 92 deg. if guage accurate, either sombody put lower temp stat in or temp not getting high enough to open stat.
BTW eng running ok and heater feels hot enough etc etc
ARH1.
ps going to change cam gaskets, should I change stat at same time?

Omega General Help / Re: Emergency - Jammed door!
« on: 24 October 2008, 15:28:28 »
Hi,
my mig had exactly same prob. turned out that no matter how I tried the door would not unlock. Funny thing is if tried then went back 20 mins later the thing would unlock easily the after a couple of locking actions, same again.   All I did was pour some lubricant down locking button left for 24 hours and tried again then it opened (oil must have found its way to mechanism and rods). Once open I lubricated the latch assy then it would lock/unlock ok manually. When I had more time, I found the problem was in fact the door latch mechanism was siezing and the strain burnt out the electric actuator. apparently quite a common fault if not lubricated.
Hope you have same success

Omega General Help / Re: mig 2.5 manual box.
« on: 14 October 2008, 22:30:24 »
Hi Guys,
Just found the answer, just invested in a manual from Mr Haynes.
To qoute
"Adjustment to the Gearchange linkage not a routine operation and should only be needed if the mechanism has been removed. If the gearchange action is stiff or imprecise check that it is correctly adjusted".
Then it goes on to mention that Vauxhall service tool KM-631A will be required to carry out this procedure.
So there we are the same syptoms I am experiencing and the answer to my question. Which raises another question, Where the hell am I going to get tool KM-631a :-?

clutch feels fine, no shudders, no crunching gears. just difficult selecting the gears as if missing the gate. Is there a drain plug to empty box so I can change oil ?

Omega General Help / mig 2.5 manual box.
« on: 14 October 2008, 00:35:48 »
Can anyone tell me if poor gear selection when cold is common on migs. Car done 100k and having difficulty selecting all gears incl reverse (tight to go in). Once in gear changes no bother. no crunching, clutch is fine. just feels like selector problem. Has this selector mechanism any adjustment?
