I am in Thailand at the moment on a needed break following the loss of my sister back in February, anyway have been driving around and in Thailand for over 14 years now, and the Thai drivers and their driving is just really bad, to the point of dangerous. Have listed below main issues with Thai driving.
1. Overtaking on blind corners and bends.
2. Overtaking before the brow of the hill.
3. Not paying attention - nearly crashed into the side of a thai pick up truck last week who did not see the oncoming traffic whilst he was crossing the highway.
4. Night driving is even worse, the use of full beam is all the time even when there is oncoming traffic, and whilst some drivers do switch of full beam when you flash them, others just flash you back and keep their full beam on
What makes some of he above issues even worse is you have to take real care and pay attention when you come up to brows of the ill or corners, just in case some idiot is overtaking. Anyway rant over, this is now public
Have driven to Chang Ria first week I was here 12 hour drive there and 12/13 hrs back, hit a section of highway having roadworks for a whole 100km
. The speed limit is 55 mph (90km) on main highways and less on town and city roads. Thankfully I missed the earthquake that took out sections of one of the main highways last Monday.
Good points of driving in Thailand is there are some excellent highway roads with excellent scenery, includes beware of elephant signs in some parts
, and had a 6 hr drive yesterday to Khon Kaen and back to renew my wifes Thai passport (second trip as last friday went there and office was shut
), and got caught speeding doing 120km, the charge was 400 thai baht around £8
, not the first time caught last year and got charged 200 thai baht
.
Well 7am in the morning here and getting very warm already go fishing later and then catch up with a few of the expats for some refreshments later
