Title: Diesel's tacho ...
Post by: Andy B on 25 August 2009, 09:40:56
.... where do they get their signal from? Specifically a DTi Vectra (not the current shape). A mate has a problem with his, the EML is on, but he's now no tacho either. He's having the code read today ..... we were just curious.  :-/

Later diseasels have a crank sensor and output on the ECU just like petrol cars.

I have seen earlier mechanical diesels with an output on the alternator to drive the tacho.

Mmm? My 1.7 low blow TD has a crank sensor, so I would think the later DTi has one too. The car is running but rough, so I would think it's something other than the crank sensor .... wait till the code reader gives its verdict.  :y

If it's got a mechanical pump it will run without a crank sensor working but the ECU has no RPM input, so it won't be great...
