2001 Omega Sport 2.5 TD and useless Satnav.
« on: 08 April 2010, 17:42:24 »

So, that's my first question.

I still have not retired the car, but i know it has a stock satnav with German maps on, and i live in Italy and i love my Tom Tom cos' i can update it weekly with Speed Cameras, new roads etc.

Can i use the stock screen with a reverse wiew camera like the ones you find for beer money on ebay?

That would be very useful for parking, for towing so i can always take a look at the trailer, and for driving when i have my dog in the rear zone, and it often covers the central mirror.

How could i make them work togheder?

Fitting of the camera is very easy, it's the connection with the screen that scares me.

assuming you have the colour screen, its not something that can be done easily, i've asked about RGB input before, and its not really possible

I am in I.T and got enough spare components to build in-car PC, love to use standard fit colour screen, but its not really possible

Shame you couldn't just replace the GID with an LCD RGB screen. But you'd lose all the Check functions.

I'd go for a roof monitor but they're all ugly and bulky.

Sunvisors?

Impossible to fit a dashboard one or a serious head unit with montiro included here in Italy, for the work i do i leave the car often in Highway, airport and silos parkings, it would be stolen in a couple of months.

Sunvisors can be a pain to use all the time, a better option would be a rear view mirror monitor
