Was the engine an option box that you didn't tick?

Not sure it has an engine. It runs on 'elastictrickery'...... and when you give it a boot you get lots of noise  and the same amount of forward motion you get with a slipping clutch. ;D ;D

It's white goods. :-\

I'd rather use a pair of roller skates, as for £21,000 that really is madness.

The Zanussi/Hotpoint hybrid is now back with Jaguar. Crazy MPG figures from it. A 'Tunnie like' 63 MPG showing at one point.

By comparison my car feels like it has been shot from a rocket launcher, when I put my foot down. :y

There's guys on the RRS forum raving about their electric RRs I wouldn't give £500 for one let alone thousands of pounds.

original pictures are of a Yaris.
This is for people who need a small car, and have better things to do than put any effort whatsoever into choosing, buying, owning and driving one.

these are most car owners, which is why Toyotas sell so well. Cars have been white goods since the Model T Ford - which is before white goods...... ;D

Anyone who thinks that a car is a status symbol, or gets excited about the waste noise from the engine is very peculiar.

True, but I still can't see why you'd buy something that has been so comprehensively engineered to eliminate any possible feelings of exhilaration.

Yes....practical shouldn't have to mean dull.

This is the sort of car that would appeal to the Eloi. :)

The Morlocks would drive something with a big V8. :D

Why would anyone want exhilaration from a device that's used to get shopping, or to visit Granny?

Presumably you'd only buy an iron designed with suggestive organic curves, three different tactile metal surfaces, programmable mood lighting, adjustable sound effects and that connects to a Facebook page via Wifi to publicly display your graphed weekly results? And read Performance Iron every month to ensure that you're always aware which one is best suited to your lifestyle?

Or do what real people do, which is buy one as part of the fortnightly shop at Sainsburys after the cat knocked the old one off again and broke it so badly you can't araldite it back together. Although you did try.....

That sort of thinking led to the abomination that was, and is, the Focus. A car that only became practical when they replaced it with that was much bigger.

When I allow myself to browse the trader, thinking I might want a new car, the filters I tick are estate, diesel and auto. Horses for courses.

That's like looking for a 'lady escort' ::) and only ticking the boxes marked overweight, bad skin, vaginal discharge. ;)

I like (and try) to enjoy everything, regardless of how mundane it is. :y

If, in a parallel universe, you and I swapped our cars, I would realise, the minute I got home, that yours would be of no practical use to me at all. Like I said, horses for courses. Practical estate for me, mid life crisis for you.

I believe the new BMW M3 is going to be available in estate form, and with 4 wheel drive. With 500 BHP it should be entertaining to drive but also appeal to the pragmatist. :y

Obviously not a planet killing derv though.

Well, she is back home with a new driver door C/L mechanism. I asked how much the work would have cost if out of warranty.

£500-£600 including the code reading to make a diagnosis.

I pay around £1000 PA......but there will of course be exclusions as to what is covered. :-\

The CLS 500 was a money pit and thrown together by a bunch of lazy krauts. It looked good but was slow and unreliable.

The Jag(s) have been much better.  Better made, far faster, and more reliable. You can't beat brummie communists if you want a good car. ;D

A pretend racecar in a style over substance estate.

Sounds like just the thing for the middle aged divorce who has crashed his new motorbike, and the much younger girlfriend traded up while he was in hospital.

What if he's a happily married guy, with a well paid job or has inherited, or both. Isn't he/she entitled to want to drive a nice car rather than a shed.  :-\  We don't have to pay for that persons car so it shouldn't bother us what they drive.  :-\

If you are talking about the 'leccy' Jaaaggg then yes it is impressive at certain things.

Initial acceleration is reasonable but above 60 MPH less so.

Love the look of it, although but not in taxi/wedding car white of the one I had for an afternoon.

I like the 1950's Sci-fi noise it makes when accelerating. :y

As I understand it, they are impressive little machines with a variety of functions, variable speeds, and good handling ultimately leads to end user satisfaction!  :y

Speaking of rabbits or 'wabbits'..... I see Elmer Fudd is no longer allowed a a gun to shoot them. :-\

Not sure how he'll make his 'wabbit pie' in 2021. :-\

Perhaps he'll charm Bugs Bunny into the cooking pot with a talk on diversity. ::)

a friend of mine swears by them.
hes had all manner of "proper cars" over the years but now as hes getting on a bit hes had his current yaris for about 10 years and its never ever had a single breakdown, mot fail or issue whatsoever.    not for me no but hes a happy camper.
