new version of WINDOWS
« on: 16 June 2021, 19:50:54 »

Windows 11  :-\

lots of talk and speculation and leaks about the announcement EVENT at 11 am 24th June 2021

"Microsoft will continue to support at least one release of Windows 10 Semi-Annual Channel until October 14, 2025"

I hope it's free for the new version or free to upgrade too from windows 10  :-\
as i've just purchased several Windows 10 digital licences  ::)

another leak says windows 11 won't run on computers without UEFI BIOS and TPM (trusted platform module ) 2.0  :o
I hope that's not the case or i've just upgraded a shed load of E waste ,though theoretically 3 more years use as windows 10 machines

There is an article about it on the bbc tech page.

Win10 support finishes 2025. Plenty of time to decide what to do.

Some recent motherboards support TPM via a header socket on the board, if you've bought a mobo recently check if it had it and I'd be tempted to try and find a module now because they probably won't make them in a few years time, due them being integrated into the board.

I did look into the TPM add on situation  :y
most of the computers have TPM version 1.2 and no header for an add on TPM  :(
the very latest update of windows now disregards the TPM v1.2 chip and states "Standard hardware security not supported"  :(
so Microsoft are insisting on motherboards only a couple of years old  :o
how many perfectly good computers will get binned because of this TPM 2 only requirement to run windows 11  :o
not very environmentally friendly that's for sure !

Windows 11 hasn't been announced yet till tomorrow  :P
it must be the worst kept secret ever , or leaked for publicity  :-X

it's been a week or so since Windows 11 got "leaked " but already the tech geeks have figured a simple way to allow the running of windows 11 on a computer without TPM 2  ;D

windows 10 is supposed to be supported  till october 2025  :)
unless Microsoft decide windows 10 needs TPM 2 as well  :-\

Microsoft have a big announcement tomorrow anyway
I wonder what that could be  ???   ;D    :D

Win11 was leaked ages ago, as part of the pre-release closed Betas of what was originally Windows Next.  No matter how many NDAs you et people to agree to, somebody will always want their 5 mins of gaytube fame.

As for H/W compatibility, for the most part, virtually nobody pays to upgrade their OS, and only does so if it automatically upgrades itself.  An OS should be irrelevant to the user.

I've purchased genuine retail software 95 ,ME ,XP pro ,Vista ,7 home and pro ,10 home and pro ,many copies /licences plus office software  ::) as do many people . I'm well aware of keygens ,generators etc ,i've purchased computers with windows "activated "  with patches  :( ,they never stay updated and activated  ::)

and only does so if it automatically upgrades itself.  An OS should be irrelevant to the user.
the O/s is pretty relevant to the user when the O/S is no longer supported  and Bill needs another £140  :P

if 11 is a free upgrade from 10 then fair enough .we might find out tomorrow  :D

The point is 99% of people don't buy a new OS.  If the OS needs to be replaced, a new computer is needed (in their eyes).  This is partly the reason for the unrealistic OS pricing.  Not many would stump up £119/199 for a Win Home/Pro retail licence, as that's a huge chunk off a new PC (outside of batflu times).

Like you, I must have bought every OS Microsoft made, bar Xenix, since around DOS3.  Except Win 10, because that's always free when you have as many Win 7 licences as I've got ;D
