General Discussion Area / Salamander Shower Pump
« on: 07 September 2023, 13:40:44 »
This morning the shower pump started 'hunting'.

It works either full on hot or full on cold but any temperature in between it 'hunts'.

A friend of my wife's husband front ended his Nissan Note(someone has to own one).

It was taken in for repair and he was provided with a courtesy car - nearly 5 months ago!

Repairer says they are awaiting parts.

It's a 2013 Nissan, I would have thought the cost of the courtesy car and repairs must be more than the cars worth.

If that dictator in London recons 90% of the cars are ULEZ compliant, why does he want to extend it?

Car insurance has gone up by over £200.

Still slightly cheaper than anything on the comparison sites.

General Car Chat / Smart mot
« on: 14 July 2023, 18:31:00 »
If you want your cartoon pass the MOT use smart mot.

Neighbour used them, they collect and return your car.

It went for an MOT with front sidelight not working, and rear brake lights not working.

Neighbour was assured bulbs would be replaced.

Car passed the MOT - front and rear bulbs still not working.

She only got charged for the MOT.

So, if you know your car is going to fail, use smart mot.

Surely they're going to encourage drivers to concentrate on their speedometer rather than the road.

Just a thought.

Set up is hot and cold water tanks + pump.

Do I drain down the hot and cold water tanks and isolate the pump?

General Car Chat / Astra K - again
« on: 12 June 2023, 12:28:59 »
Got a message come up on my display (it's a 1.4 Petrol) 'Service Vehicle Soon'.

Went and bought an iCarsoft Vauxhall V2 code reader.

If I try to read the ECM I get the following message ;-

Lost communication with DC/DC converter control module A on bus B.

It has no problems reading Mrs AA's 1.4 Sri.

Any ideas please.

It reads all other modules OK with no fault codes.

General Car Chat / Anyone on here got an Astra K auto?
« on: 08 June 2023, 12:42:39 »
We've got 2.

Intermittently both cars fail to engage park properly, so you cannot remove key from the ignition.

With the ignition switched on and moving the gear leaver backwards and forwards it eventually releases the key.

I've searched for a solution (seems like a common problem) but results don't seem to offer a satisfactory cure.

Any ideas please?

Vauxhall deny any knowledge of the fault - surprise surprise!

I've just realised I'm now the second best snooker player in the world.

In every league match I played this season, I came second ::)

General Car Chat / Reconditioning an AGM battery.
« on: 10 October 2021, 10:09:29 »
My car battery would not charge above 11,7/11,8 volts with the alternator going flat out at 14.6 volts.

Took it off the car and charged it in recovery mode on my Stop/Start smart charger.

After it had finished it's cycle, I put it on auto charge.

Battery is now holding at 12,7/12,8 volts with the alternator only cutting in periodically.

Saved me about £140 for a new battery.

Dead chuffed.

General Discussion Area / ParcelHero?
« on: 28 July 2021, 09:42:29 »
A company called ParcelHero took a small amount out of my credit card, never heard of them till yesterday.

Bank has refunded the money and issued me with a new Credit Card.

Research on the net shows them to be a dubious courier company.

Anyone had any dealing with them.

Haven't a clue how they have got hold of my Credit Card details.
