If you look at the pictures on the beeb

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7194201.stm

Picture #4 especially, you can see that after the undercariage has sheared of the lower edge of the engine intake has "gouged" the ground .. this is a bit like using a bulldozer blade as a brake .....   darned effective !

Reports that the undercarriage was "up" are clearly wrong as picture #5 shows the nose gear down and intact... ..and this probably saved far more serious damage

:)

I'm not pilot, but that plane from impact to standstill doesn't look far.

Well done to pilot I guess.

Somehow I think landing 100 yards SHORT of the runway, on a soft surface, such that you rip the main undercarriage off, when in front of you is 2 miles of prepared surface, does not deserve a "well done"

At least he/she managed to miss the perimeter road or it would be a much much sadder outcome .. but I think someone will have some very serious questions to answer on why they were so short.

ABS membership will give you access to some areas. not all. You can peruse the "red book on line" but I don't know how up-to-date it is kept.

The site said the oil offer finished 31 Dec, however when I asked my dealer on 8 Jan he said it was still running.. yup I was truly pleased .. :)

I see it has now been officially extended ...

The TC card not only gets you "red book" prices on TC items.. but my dealer gives me full trade prices on other non-redbook items every time... saved me a fortune so far ...

EP has some special "hidden" posts that may or may not resurface at any time, subject to Admin whim ..... :)

There are certain subjects that certain Admins take exception to and deal with in a certain way.. this often involves loss of post count which may be temporary or permanent depending on said Admins mood ....

Now I hope that has passed the info without actually saying much .....  :)

(watches post count with trepidation ... :)   )

Doodley .. thanks for that .. :)

Kevin  . bought the existing one from DK ... they don't seem to get many miggy's in now  :(  Roger Budden had a nice one last week but I got called away and it's sold now .. as is the one I was after on autotrader ...

Main problem I have is SWMBO doesn't like silver cars ... she wants another "dark" one or I'd be interested in the one at RB

Still, this one works and works well .. just have to keep watching ...  :)

That is based on the fact that my 1999 Elite is only analogue telephone and is limited to Vodafone and some other SIM card ...

Nope, phone is GSM 900Mhz (Vodafone / O2) digital as it uses a SIM card, what the CCRT700 doesn't work with is PCN 1800Mhz (Orange / T-Mobile).

Analogue was the old TACs and later on ETACS network.  :y

Thanks for the info .. you learn something new every day on this site .. :)

THis is all I can find on UK OnStar .. bit old now I think ..

All the info on the LATEST version of onstar is here ....

http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/explore/onstar_basics/helpful_info.jsp?info-view=tech_equip

you may have to search a bit for the older version info ...  :)

but the FAQ's give a bit

http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/explore/onstar_basics/faq_popup.jsp

My guess is you come under this one ...

Analog-Only:
OnStar-equipped vehicles with analog-only equipment were designed to operate only on the analog cellular network and there is no digital upgrade available. Vehicles with this equipment will no longer be able to receive OnStar services beginning January 1, 2008. At this time, service is available only through dual-mode (analog/digital) equipment. (Refer to Question #7 for additional details.)
