You would need the De Luxe version to have Acceleartion Pack.
Acceleration is an add on.
I have to go out now but will put more info on later....bear with me fellas  8-)

You will need a 'humphy' machine for FSX....but once you get used to it, it is way better in effects than FS2004. If you go for FSX, check whether it contains the Acceleration pack. This is an extra expense otherwise.
FS2004 is very popular, and once FSX was sneered at even by me, but honestly when you get to grips with FSX there is no going back.
As an example of what can be done in FSX....we are carrier landing with arrestor wires, Catapault launching, Hoisting people out of the water with helicopters (if you can find them)..lol ;D Virtual cockpits are stunning now.
Some of the aircraft are so detailed now with total cold starts, you need to do every thing. I have the PMDG Jetstream, and all I have done so far is blow up ten engines and am still sat in the Hangar.  ;D ;D
Some piccy's

This is me in the front Spit, with two of my online buddies in formation.

This is me flying the VC10, with a Tonka coming in to refuel back in my Rafv days

Its a good hobby, Nickbat. We all have to start somewhere.
Don't worry about potato fields  ;D I was flying online to Jersey using IVAO ATC, and after landing the controller asked me where I was and I had to tell him I was in the field at the end of the runway.  ;D
The small group I am involved with now use FSX.....the toys you can use are superb. Currently we are doing carrier landing using the T45C Goshawk. When I can suss out how to upload, I will put a couple of piccy's up. I assume its via Photobucket or similar.

Anybody here into Microsoft Flight Sim ???? Interested to make contact if so. I do online flying with a couple of orgs, and was once Sqn Ldr (OC) No 41 Sqn Jaguars, at RAF Virtual.
Also got 600 odd hours with IVAO
Did run a virtual airline..... Explore Virtual once, and although the website is still open, have not had time to resurrect it yet.

Where abouts did the OP say it was a dead laptop?

If that quote was aimed at my post, the reference was to laptops and desktop PC's but meaning If its a laptop I am unfamiliar with them, but if its a desktop this is my route  :)

IF....it does fire up, and gets to Desktop, you could try a System Restore. (XP) If you get the message 'Your System Cannot be Restored....then that usually signals using the Windows disks (recovery or fresh load.
Path is ....Start/Accessories/System Tools/ System Restore....and follow easy instructions

OR

Start/Help and Support/Tools/System Restore.....

I do find it strange it does not fire up.....
Thats normally a power supply problem, or a knackered HDD

Can't he fire up at all ????

I'm not familiar with laptops, but with standard PC, I would put in another hard drive....disconnect original drive if you are not familiar with loading windows, then load windows on the new drive, put back original drive as a SLAVE drive....then get out the files you want. Be careful, though, just take ordinary files, as those viruses attack exe. files and if you copy programs over you could inherit the worm.
OR you could attach the 'bad' drive to another computer as a slave and get in that way. Again care is needed to not infect the other computer.
If you are not familiar with the guts of a computer, you should get help and not do it yourself.
I know its not possible all the time, but I have about 5 drives on this computer, and C drive is only used for the Operating system. All other stuff is on other drives, (Flight Sim) (Rfactor). So when a virus comes in and is fatal, I just wipe C drive and reload windows. Takes about an hour and I am up and running. If you are trying to get back Excel and Word files you should not have any problems getting them from a slave drive

It was a hot Saturday evening in the summer of 1961, and Fred had a date with Peggy Sue.

He arrived at her house and knocked on the door.

'Oh, come on in!' Peggy Sue's mother said as she  welcomed Fred in.

'Have a seat in the living room.  Would you like something to drink?
Lemonade? Squash ?'

'Squash, please,' Fred said.
Mum brought in orange Squash.

'So, what are you and Peggy planning to do tonight?'  she asked.

'Oh, probably catch a film,  and then maybe grab a bite to eat at the chip shop, maybe take a walk around the park..'

'Peggy likes to screw, you know,' Mum informed him.

'Really?' Fred replied, his eyebrows rising.

'Oh yes,' the mother continued,  'When she goes out with her friends, that's all they do! Screw, screw again and again !!'

'Is that so?' asked Fred, incredulous.
'Yes,' said the mother.
'As a matter of fact, she'd screw all night if we let her!'

'Well, thanks for the tip!' Fred said as he began  thinking about alternate plans for the evening.

A moment later, Peggy Sue came down the stairs  looking pretty as a picture, wearing a pink blouse and a hooped skirt, and with her hair tied back  in a bouncy ponytail.
She greeted Fred..

'Have fun, kids!' the mother said as they left..

Two hours later, a completely dishevelled Peggy Sue  burst into the house and slammed the front door behind her.

'The Twist, Mum!' she angrily yelled to  her mother in the kitchen. 'The f***ing dance is called the Twist !!!'
