General Car Chat / Winter Prep
« on: 07 December 2022, 21:17:38 »
How do you prepare your car for winter?  ???

Here's how they do it in Siberia!  :)

General Car Chat / Wheel Refurbishment
« on: 28 November 2022, 21:37:17 »
I'm getting fed up with my leaky rims on the Mondeo, having to check the tyre pressures regularly and the odd spontaneous flat which typically happens in the pissing rain.  ::)

So after having to fit the spare on Saturday arvo (yes in the pissing rain), I examined the rim carefully yesterday and after pouring some water I noticed in one place where the bubbles were coming out, a very slight flat spot in the rim.   :-\

So the question is.... Would a refurb fix this?  ???  :-\

TIA!  :y

General Car Chat / Audi Q7

Anyone got any experience of these?  ???

My mate had one and said that it chewed tyres even though he had the alignment done several times and eventually got rid.  :-\

General Discussion Area / Jeremy Hunt
« on: 18 October 2022, 11:50:08 »
So we have a new de facto Dear Leader that nobody voted for.  It's the equivalent of Mario Monti and Mario Draghi the technocratic Prime Ministers imposed on Italy by the EU.  ::)

Talking of which, we are told that Jeremy Hunt was on holiday in Belgium when he got the call from Liz Truss offering him the job of Chancellor and he had to high tail it back to London on the EuroStar from Brussels.

So..... Who the hell goes on holiday to Belgium in October?  ???

What was he really doing in Brussels? Who was he meeting with and why?  ???

General Discussion Area / Tax Cuts
« on: 14 October 2022, 12:28:32 »
Feverish media speculation today that Kwasi Kwarteng will be sacked and that Liz Truss will reverse the tax cuts in the 'mini budget' specifically the cancellation of Rishi Sunak's hike in Corporation Tax.

Below is a little snapshot from my Twitter timeline earlier. So it seems that American tax incentives are motivating German chemical businesses to move to the USA taking jobs and prosperity with them, but in Britain tax cuts are bad.  ::)

I'm with Octopus on their Flexible Avro tariff which as advertised went up today.  :(

I was paying:

Leccy: 28.40p kwh 51.36p per day S/C
Gas: 7.48p kwh  27.22p per day S/C

Now paying:

Leccy: 51.71p kwh  51p per day S/C
Gas: 14.85p kwh  26.84p per day S/C

So a massive hike in the unit cost of gas and electricity, but look on the bright side...... they've reduced my standing charges!  :D

General Discussion Area / Nord Stream 2
« on: 27 September 2022, 23:25:12 »
So someone has blown up Nord Stream 2, the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany in three places under the Baltic Sea.  :o

Millions of dollars worth of natural gas are bubbling up to the surface and escaping into the atmosphere (God knows what that will do for climate change!  :D) and the general consensus seems to be that it was the Russians that did it.  ::)

Or did they?  ???

There's a few mischievous sorts out there claiming it was the Yanks wot did it!  :o

Popcorn time?  :)

General Discussion Area / Excess Deaths
« on: 18 August 2022, 23:06:53 »
Apparently Britain is experiencing around 1000 excess deaths a week at the moment, many of which are thought to be caused by delays in treatment for things like cancer, heart disease, diabetes etc due to lockdowns and the National Health Service becoming the National Covid Service.  ::)

Mark Steyn was talking about this on his GB News show recently, and The Telegraph has the story on it's front page tomorrow, but I wonder how many of the opposition politicians and big corporate media characters who constantly demanded that the government locked down sooner, harder and for longer, will now pivot and attack the government for the NHS neglecting people with serious non covid illnesses and conditions during the Covid period?  ???

General Discussion Area / Two things.....
« on: 16 August 2022, 22:22:47 »
..... caught my eye in today' news.  :)

Firstly, The RAF has paused making job offers to white men to meet diversity targets.  ::)

And secondly, the Scottish Government has appointed it's first Period Dignity Officer..... a man!  ;D

General Discussion Area / Salman Rushdie
« on: 12 August 2022, 20:30:32 »
So after all these years they finally got him!  :o

The Mail are reporting that he was stabbed 15 times and once in the neck, but apparently he's not fatally wounded.

On the BBC's R2 news earlier, they did a very sniffy piece about him with some 'expert' saying that people had died because of the book, Satanic Verses that he wrote in the 1980's and implied that it was his fault.  ::)

How about they discuss the irrational response to Rushdie's book from the Islamic world, including the fatwah issued by Iran's Supreme Mad Mullah?  ???

General Discussion Area / Bonfires
« on: 07 August 2022, 18:54:01 »
We haven't had any rain round here for ages and everything is really dry, the fields are yellow they are so parched.  :-\

It's a lovely still summer's evening, people have got washing out and the windows open.  :y

Some t.wat nearby has lit a bonfire FFS!  >:(

No wonder there are wildfires all over the place.  ::)
