Omega General Help / LPG Conversion
« on: 10 July 2008, 13:23:02 »
Just about to have my 3.2 Elite converted to LPG using the OMVL Dream 21N system. This is going to be done by a qualified installer in Kent. Having read in other posts that the meega is a pig to convert compared to some other vehicles, has anyone on the forum had theirs converted using the OMVL system? If so what's their experience of it?

Omega General Help / Firmware Updates
« on: 09 June 2008, 16:10:10 »
As a newcomer to the forum I wasn't aware until reading various posts that the firmware in my meegas autobox, climate control etc could be upgraded to latest versions. I assume that this has to be done through Tech 2. As I have had my 3.2 elite since new in 2001 there are probably quite a few updates that could be beneficial.
I am also asuming that the Vauxhall stealers do not do this as part of their yearly service schedules without charging for a Tech 2 session in addition to the service? Does anyone know if they would just charge for one session to update all firmware?
Unfortunately there is noone near here that has the necessary to do a Tech 2 session so I am limited to going to the stealers!!

Omega General Help / Automotive Remanufacturer - BBA-Reman
« on: 09 May 2008, 19:07:46 »
Having recently had a problem with my meega CID I came across a automotive remanufacturer in Rochester Kent who repaired it for me at a very reasonable cost and were also very helpful.
They also remanufacture ABS Sensors, Dash Panels, Throttle Bodies, Fuel Pumps, Electric Power Steering etc etc etc. Their website is well worth a look at:-

http://www.bba-reman.com/

They do have Omega items as well as other VX models (Corsa, Vectra etc)
If you ring them let the phone ring as they get very busy and only have 10 I/C lines.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Remaining Facelift Bits for Sale
« on: 15 February 2011, 11:55:29 »
Having recently sold my Mig have the following bits remaining for sale

12 Pin Opel Camlock plug with approx 12 inches of loom attached (used for RGB input on CID)     £16 inc postage
(I believe this is a rare and very hard item to get hold of. I sourced it from Germany at a cost of 30 Euros but never then used it)  NOW SOLD

Selection of O rings and clips:-
4 Part no 90467543  “Top Hat” O Ring Seal Plenum to Breather Box
6 Part no 9118135      O Ring Seals Plenum to Intakes
2 Part no 90458358    Plastic Scuttle Clips
£10 inc postage NOW SOLD

Facelift Elite Drivers memory door mirror  £25 plus £5 postage

This mirror was originally sourced from another forum member to replace the one on my Mig on which I had slightly damaged the black plastic frame against my garage door.
Decided not to renew whole mirror but just replaced black frame. Have repaired old frame and refinished mirror in 20H Nocturno Blue Mica. Note: Cover has had to be glued on as retaining clips had broken. Have not tested memory function etc as never fitted to vehicle but have no reason to doubt that they work.
Price reflects the above.

Please PM with any questions. TIA

I recently sold my beloved mig to another forum member and going to the dark side have now got an 09 plate Insignia Elite 2.0 CDTi from a main Vx dealer in this neck of the woods. Went back to dealer yesterday to sort out a couple of minor niggles (successfully!!) and noticed the above Omega amongst other cars on forecourt. Chatting to salesman found out it had only just come in. From a very quick look it looked quite tidy, apparently has about 58k on it, is on a private plate at moment but 52 plates are inside car so assume these will be going back on. Last owners were a funeral director (!!) which I had guessed. Only possible downside is that it is a GLS (poverty spec!!) but does have alloys fitted.
It may be worth an OOFer who wants a nice, late mig estate giving the sales guy a ring and finding out a bit more and perhaps making an offer for it subject to viewing. I don't think they will want to keep it for resale but will probably end up trading it. Name of sales guy is Lee Oliver who is on 01435 869430. Car is located at Goldsmith and Allcorn, Station Road, Heathfield, East Sussex. Mention that you heard about it from the guy from Hastings who bought the Insignia recently.

(With Apologies to LEE A for nicking his advert layout)

This vehicle has been my baby since I bought her new in April 2001 and has been looked after with no expense spared. Washed nearly every week and polished twice a year with Autoglym or Klasse All in One and High Gloss Sealant.

She is a 2001 3.2 Elite with Colour Sat Nav, exterior in Star Silver Z147 and interior in Charcoal Grey leather. Benefits from a professional Zavoli LPG installation by Kent Autogas which is still under warranty until Aug 2011 and is fully certificated to COP 11. Registered with the DVLA as a dual fuel vehicle. Taxed and MOT until April 2011. Mileage now is only 40,750 which is fully documented by old MOT’s and full Vauxhall dealer service history since new. All bills, and receipts etc (including original bill of sale) can be shown to verify mileage.

BODYWORK:

Finished in metallic Star Silver Z147 the vehicle has always been garaged and has been kept in an immaculate condition (not my words but the local Vx Dealers). There are a few very small stone chips commensurate with the cars age and mileage. All small car park dents have been professionally removed by a local paintless dent repair expert. There is a small scratch approx 1” long on the edge of the boot spoiler and two very small marks on front bumper. Other than these small blemishes the paintwork is unmarked as can be seen in attached photos.  There is absolutely no sign of rust anywhere, and doors and rear wheel arches are in pristine condition. The only corrosion is a small spot (bubble about little fingernail size) on black sunroof surround.

MECHANICAL:

3.2i 24v Ecotec with 4 speed automatic gearbox with snow and sport button. Zavoli LPG Conversion by Kent Autogas August 2008. The car has full stamped service history carried out by local Vauxhall dealer.

SERVICE HISTORY:

Serviced in March/April every year since new by local main Vauxhall dealer. Last service and MOT carried out March 2010 at 37,089 . Plugs changed with GM 4 electrode August 2008 and August 2010 as recommended by LPG installer (2 year interval instead of 4 year), front disks and pads changed for genuine GM ones August 2010. Cambelt changed April 2006 at 23,646 and April 2009 at 33,752. Next due April 2013 or at 73,752.
Steering geometry check and correction to OSF camber by Tony at WIM July 2009 plus two new Falken 452’s fitted to rear.
Service booklet stamped and provided with all manuals, car pass etc in original leather wallet.

WHEELS AND TYRES:

Fitted with standard 17” Elite alloys these are virtually unmarked, two rears having a very small marks.Tyres are Michelin Primacy at front with approx 6mm tread depth, rears are Falken 452’s with approx 8mm tread depth.

INTERIOR:

Charcoal leather trim with genuine Vauxhall floor mats. All seats are in excellent condition, with no marks or scuffs and rear seat is virtually unused and is as new. The drivers mat does have some wear. The carpets underneath all mats are immaculate as the mats are standard and have been in the car since it left the dealer. ALL heated seats work.

Full Siemens NCDC 2013 with Bose custom speaker system with the factory fitted optional 5” colour map view monitor for the sat nav. This was repaired by BBA Reman in March 2008 when they fitted a new LCD screen to cure the common problem that these screens suffer from and has been perfect since then. The current disc (2007/08) is a genuine Vauxhall (Navtec), and works exactly as it left the factory. There is also fitted a Nokia hands free kit with a phone cradle that will fit a Nokia 5110/6110 mobile. Buy one of these on E bay for a tenner, slip your SIM in and voila a complete hands free system that works through the car stereo.

OTHER:

The best car I have ever owned it was my present to myself on my early retirement. I  have taken special care of this one because it is the nicest (and most expensive!!) one I have ever owned. Athough the depreciation has been horrific  I would still purchase a new one today were they still on sale.

Given the low mileage it has done (because of use of other vehicles), its excellent condition and the LPG conversion (cost £1800) I believe the price I am seeking is a fair one compared to some other sale adverts. I really want this vehicle to go to someone who will appreciate it and look after it rather than part ex it or sell it to a non forum member as I am looking at a 1 year old Insignia Elite.

Please PM me with any questions or interest you may have.

If there is no interest from forum members I will advertise it locally and in Autotrader.

Price to forum members is £2250

General Car Chat / Trade Club versus Trade
« on: 16 July 2011, 15:48:43 »
Hve been thinking about getting a Trade Club Card through Autobahnstormers. However at the moment I get trade price on all the bits and pieces I need for my Siggy and SWMBO's Corsa (and previously on my much missed f/l Mig Elite). I get trade prices because I have known one of the parts guys at the local Vx dealers for over 30 years and I always make sure I see him when I want something!!
Question is - do I really need the Trade Club card in view of the above. Are the prices for all items able to be  brought with it cheaper that the trade prices I can get?
Perhaps Andyc on the forum maybe the guy who can give a definitive answer on this one? TIA

General Car Chat / Anybody Know anything about Astras?
« on: 14 November 2010, 16:00:06 »
Son in law and daughter have recently aquired an 03 plate 1.6Sxi Astra and I have got a couple of queries regarding it.

First is the cambelt interval. I am unsure from both the handbook and what I have read elsewhere whether with these engines the interval is 40k or 60k. According to the service history belt was changed at 57k which seems to indicate a 60k interval. Can anyone confirm?

Second is related to oil consumption which seems a little on the high side for a 59k engine. Doesn't appear to smoke but I seem to recall that one of the members on this forum (JamesV6Elite?????) had an Astra after a con rod invented a new form of crankcase ventilation on his V6 Omega after an engine rebuild. The Astra that he had also had high oil consumption and I seem think that this turned out to be valve stem oil seals. Am I correct in this??

Grateful for any info from forum members

General Car Chat / Jaguar XKR
« on: 01 December 2009, 12:38:14 »
Recently my godson won the Sunday Times HotLaps competition, the prize being the loan of a Jaguar XKR for 6 months. Yesterday I had the chance to have a drive in it and have to say it was absolutely mind blowing. Its a 5 litre supercharged V8 and it will do 50-70 in 1.9 seconds. The acceleration can only be described as fierce (you can almost feel your internal organs being crushed as you open the thing up). It has every single gizmo inside, flappy paddle gearchange, fully controlled DVD nav/phone/audio/climate etc etc plus its a convertible. Downside is about 8mpg when you thrash it. Totally impractical for an old git like me, but what a motor!! Sorry to say it even puts my lovely Elite mig into the shade!! Hope he enjoys it for the next few months - I'm green with envy!!

General Car Chat / Price of LPG
« on: 13 August 2009, 17:51:20 »
Just come up from the South coast to Pudsey near Leeds for Grandson's christening. At home LPG is 53.9p litre at nearest BP station. At ASDA's at Pudsey just filled up with LPG at 46.9p litre.
How the heck can a 7p difference be justified?

General Car Chat / Wheels in Motion
« on: 23 July 2009, 18:45:33 »
Just back from a 210 mile round trip to see Tony at WIM to have alignment sorted and two Falken 452's fitted. Was well impressed with whole thing. Tony went out of his way to explain what was needed to be altered on my Elites alignment and what had caused the wear on the o/s front, namely the camber being way out. After adjustment and having the Falkens fitted to replace two Michelins at the rear, it was immediately apparent on setting off back to the coast that the whole feel of the car was much improved, steering much more positive and the steering wheel in the centre position at last after the toe setting was corrected.
Like other forum members, cannot recommend Tony's outfit too highly. The tyre price was not too bad either compared to some and it was very convenient to get both items done at the same time.

Please note that my beautiful mig has now been sold to a forum member who will I hope cherish and look after her as I have done. Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest in buying it. As I have now gone to the dark side by buying an Insignia Elite 2.0CDTi I have one or two Omega bits for sale that I will put in the correct section of the forum in due course.

General Discussion Area / Insurance Companies!!
« on: 08 May 2010, 14:38:52 »
Recently my daughter and her husband were out in their Fiat Stilo, 04 reg with 40k on it, average condition (yes I know bag o shite - told them not to buy it), when they were hit in the rear by another driver who straight away admitted liability and gave his insurance details. The apparent damage did not look too bad but when I looked at the car later it seemed that apart from being difficult to close and with a dent in the tailgate and a broken rear bumper, the o/s rear door was rubbing on the door opening. This made me suspect that the shell was slightly twisted.  The other drivers insurance (Liverpool and Victoria) were very prompt in contacting my daughter and sent an assessor to look at the car.
They (LV) are now saying that the car is a write off, the assessor saying that repairs will be approx £3500 which I find a little hard to believe. LV are now asking for details of the finance agreement on the vehicle, presumably to see how much money is outstanding on the agreement. I presume that is so they will settle this amount. If this is what they are suggesting it will mean my daughter is left with no car and with no money for a deposit and finance on another one.
To my mind they should be put back into the position they were in before they were invoved in this accident for which they were completely blameless i.e. have a vehicle of the same standard and value as the Stilo which is to be written off.
Having never being involved in a situation like this with outstanding finance on a car, I don't know how to advise them so that they can pursue this to their satisfaction.
I am sure that there must be others on the forum that have had this happen to them. What was your experience? Any suggestions on how they can proceed with this would be gratefully received.

General Discussion Area / Outrageous LPG prices in South East
« on: 17 April 2010, 14:31:03 »
Is anyone else like me getting incredibly p***ed off with the rip off prices of LPG down this way. We have recently been up to Leeds to visit our daughter and grandson and at Asda in Pudsey LPG was 56.9p per litre and even on the M1 (BP) it was just 66.9p per litre. Now at the nearest LPG  supply to me, a BP garage, its 72.9p per litre and at another BP garage about 15 miles away its 75.9p per litre. Now I cannot believe that even taking the price on the M1 and transport costs a price difference of 6p a litre (or 27.3p a gallon!!) is justified, or taking the Asda price a difference of 16p a litre (72.8p a gallon!!) simply because we are in the South. My nearest other supplier is a Somerfield store at Polegate (about 14 miles away) and their price is 63.9 per litre.
It seems to me that BP are royally ripping us off down here and I would love to know from other oofers down this way if they have the same experience and how we could do something to complain about this. The only thing that immediately comes to my mind is to write to BP and challenge their costs, but we would undoubtably be told to b-off. Any one got any other ideas of how or with who we/i could raise this?
