It looks similar to mine (and same vintage) and all that needed was the dried out electrolytic capacitors on the control PCB replacing for 105 deg. C items and it's been fine since.
If it's the gas valve OR the PCB it sounds like diagnostics isn't the guy's strong point. Which one is it?
There would be a marginal increase in efficiency changing for a modern condensing boiler, which will then last 10 years instead of another 30, IMHO.

« on: 10 February 2025, 20:46:29 »Is it still the tyres that need running in for the first 600 miles?Just watch it for the first 5 miles or so, whilst the release agent comes off, they can be a little more slippery. Though unless you're driving towards the limit, you prob won't notice.
The last 5 miles of the old tyres on the way to the depot are always far more hazardous, I find.

I think that's a great improvement. That is exactly the electric car I'd want.
I wouldn't be bothered doing anything more than a short commute or Sunday morning thrash in an electric car so the SUVs and saloons on offer from the mainstream manufacturers aren't remotely of interest. That would take me and my packed lunch quite happily.
The Elan is exactly the type of car that needs to outlive the end of fossil fuel - adorable styling, fantastic chassis and the original engine, whilst a bit of a classic, it's not sacrilege on the scale of a Ferrari lump to bin it. It was only a warmed over old Ford dog without the benefit of enough development to make it properly reliable as a daily driver. No-brainer.

Still doesn't explain why they didn't drop straight in, Go around or no go around.
Given that they had completely cleaned up the aircraft config I suspect the problem occurred some time into a go-around that might or might not have been related to the ultimate cause of the crash, and they were expecting a lengthy go-around. As such, the aircraft had climbed well above glide slope and in a clean config a landing straight ahead probably wouldn't have been possible at that point.
Sadly the situation clearly deteriorated after that decision and they were left no option but to land clean on the opposing run with the results we all witnessed.
Both engines going pop in the initial climb out of a GA must be about the worst scenario that they could have found themselves in. They did well to have got it back to a runway, in my view.

Was a little late on my commute today, so caught the school bus, which parks up outside the village hall. Ruddy great touring coach in a little lane, far too big to pull into the car park, so that's a pain in the ass to get past as it is. That wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the dozen or so SUVs abandoned wherever they come to a halt. So little Johnny gets a bus to school but needs 2 1/2 tonnes of tractor fuel guzzling faux 4x4 junk to get his @rse out of bed and the half a mile (max) to the bus itself.
Well, funnily enough, I did that once, when rather hung-over and trying to get the bus into town to retrieve my car.
"I think your school days are over, mate" was the exact expression, if memory serves.
