Hi, I'm having problems with misfire on Cylinder one, Being told its a problem with coil pack, I how ever am not convinced it is, if you remove the coil pack and put back in it is totally fine!!

Basically want to know how these coil packs should be fitted to the engine??

There is a EcoTec Cover holding it in place, is this right?? there are no threads for bolts in the engine block, just wiring earthing the coil pack.

Never seen this before on a Vauxhall, im totally at stumped with it.

Anyone care to check out their Z22SE coil pack fittings and let me know

i watched my dispac being ''found'' and checked. DLK took the ecotec cover off and it was situated under a mass of leads right at the very back.

looked difficult to get out even when he took the bit off that holds the wiper blades

Hi and welcome (just in case it hasn't been said already!). Just serviced my dad's 06 Vectra with the same engine as yours. The coil pack was bolted down with four 10mm bolts then covered with the plastic trim. Connection was to the right as you face the engine. The holes in the coil pack have a brass insert with a larger size thread in them to aid removal - put 4 bolts in to gently pull on.

plastic cover is just aesthetic, you need to remove the loom plug at the back first, then this slides off.

Two torx bolts should hold the coil pack securely in place, unlike V6 its a doddle to access.

If there are no bolt holes, it suggests the heads have been changed at some point and had 2.0 ones put on instead, as they did not have the holes for a coil pack.

)2.0 had a DIS pack instead)

Any history of HG failure?

2.2 is a very different engine to the 2.5 V6

Bit that holds the wiper blades is the scuttle....

You have been watching the Master at work!

He was however working on a V6 rather than a desmond 4 pot, as you rightly pointed out your dispack is buried deep in the far recesses of the engine only to be reached by removing half the car, lying on the engine and having very long arms!

ive looked over this coil pack, there are two bolt hole in the top and thats it, not even a thread hole in the actual engine block, which I presumed the coil would be bolted to.

its basically just sat in there just bobbing around etc :-/

My last Vauxhall (2000 Astra 1.6) had four bolts holding it in, just as you described with your dad's Vectra.

Vauxhall say this is how its should be, although most of the tech guys at my local dealer were still in Nappies when this Omega was produced

As has been suggested, it appears that your engine has a 2.0 head fitted instead of a 2.2 :-? :-?

It did have the head changed, at a Garage about 3 years ago, Before I had it mind !!

Is a 2.0 head going to make much difference to the car? other than bolt threads for coil pack??

so as the coil pack is long and sits on top of the plugs how come the v6 has a dispac instead of also just sitting on the plugs?

sorry if thats a daft question but im slowly learning basics

this was done according to an invoice to earth the coil pack,

2.6/3.2 has a coil back, but the 2.0 had a dis pack

Coil packs where introduced as part of the DBW improvements with the new engine, coil packs remove the need for plug leads

If you have the invoice go ask the garage why the hell the used a 2.0 head instead of the original. Even if the 2.2 head over-heated it could have been skimmed.

Can only think it cracked :-/

Don't apologise, I am also on the learning curve, and sometimes it gets very steep

The late V6s have the coil / dispacks (not sure of the difference) in the same position as the one described i.e. directly on top of the plugs, hence no HT leads - much easier to get to.

ive been reading the 'general help' section (never usually commenting) to get some basics. ill know im a mechanic god when ive learnt to change spark plugs by myself

Some will argue it was a backwards step, coil packs are no more reliable than dis pack it seams. But it does look neater, less clutter.

The Invoice I have states Cam belt change, and head gasket change, doesn't say anything about replacing head?!!

Well there certainly isn't a price for it anyway, ive taken a few pictures of the coil pack area but not sure how to load pics on here???
