Omega General Help / Re: Dent removal?
« on: 17 November 2011, 18:03:33 »
A good few years ago I hired a Xsara Picasso while on holiday in France.  A local leaned gently on the passenger door as he was chatting to a friend and the door skin collapsed as if it was made from baking foil.  To avoid hassle, I borrowed a sink plunger and pulled it out with that  :o.  The job was rubbish but good enough to get the car handed back with no issues.   8)

Spent the last 5 years going up motorways and still looking good at 280,000 miles.
Shows regular cleaning and polishing works and never skimp on maintenance. Oil change every 10,000 miles.
The engine big end split in two at 278,000 miles but found a 60,000 mile engine with service history so should keep going for a while!

The engine will die prematurely like this unless you change the oil at the recommended 5,000 miles.   ;) ;) ;D ;D

Nice looking car though - how did you keep the driver's seat leather so good?

Out of curiosity, is it something about these cars that turns good drivers into bad ones, or is it that bad drivers have the urge to buy them?

Try reading the engine codes using the paperclip test:

then post them on here for the experts to interpret.

Clamp meter probably simplest - although some cheap ones are pants on DC.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 13 November 2011, 17:02:36 »
Replaced the front door check strap bushes.  Under 5 minutes and under 50p to do both sides - if your door clonks as you open it, just do the job, it's a doddle!   :y

Omega General Help / Re: Holding gears going up hills
« on: 12 November 2011, 19:21:49 »
Yep - moderate throttle from motorway speed and they generally drop 4th to 2nd then back up to 3rd shortly afterwards.  An ATF change every 70K should help the smoothness but won't stop the ECU from dropping two gears.  Others on OOF have recommended Fuchs Titan 4000.  If you register on the Opie site they give you a discount.  There is a guide in the Maintenance Guides section.

Others on here have said they offer a low price then, when you take the car in, invent reasons to drop their offer even further.

If it's a petrol V6 the price will be low anyway - fuel costs I guess.

 :(

Hi Omega32E - welcome along.

That cambelt is way overdue - I would be pooing myself  :o

Start a thread in Omega General Help asking for nearby mechanics - more people will see it there.  From memory, Darth Loo-Knee is probably nearest in Stork-on-Trent.  Isn't that just 50 or 60 miles from you?

Best of luck!   :y

Would not be surprised if the "fog" they drove into was smoke from firework display. I saw one about a mile away from my flat, after they finished the entire area was in a blanket of mist/fog.

The police seem to agree with you, according to the BBC.  Smoke from a local rugby club bonfire and fireworks.

Anyone feel some manslaughter charges in the offing?   :-\

Not at all - I'm afraid I rely very heavily on the spill chequer  :-[

All the best with your problem - wish I could offer something more constructive  ::)

Omega General Help / Re: Fuel Filter removal assistance please
« on: 06 November 2011, 13:43:15 »
At risk of pointing out the b obvious, part of each plastic clip stays attached to the filter and only part of it comes off.  The two wedge shaped tabs that you squeeze together don't move - they stay on the filter.  The ring shaped part that is closest to the body of the filter has to slide over the tabs to come off.
