Spanner light on..
« on: 24 September 2016, 14:48:03 »

Not used my car.2.2. desmond for 3 weeks ..started her up and it missed fired reved up and it was ok..next day same thing happened..so I suspected the cam shaft sensor...changed that for a genuine vauxhall one and sure enough now starts and runs as it should....But now the spanner light has come on..cant take it on the road as not tax/insurance as cancelled that to put on new car...run her around the car park and all appears ok...at a stand still it revs up to 5000 so no bother there...a friend connected a blue point maxiscan unit to it and although it connected to the system ok it said ..no faults found...all systems are ok but still the spanner light shines on...Being an automatic i tried the pedal trick test as someone on here said it will work on a 2002 auto as long as the thing is in drive...but sadly to no avail....any suggestions please as to why no codes stored...or what it could be that is not showing up and how to get rid of the damm light...apart from setting lite to it  lol...thanks.. :-\ :y

Buy a £12 code reader - e-bay Autel Maxiscan300. It will read the code, tell you what it means, and allow you to cancel it. I bought a manual Omega 2.2 2 months ago, perfect except EML comes on accasionally (once a fortnight). Plugged in code reader, it says Code P0420, bank 1 catalytic converter not fully efficient. Sounded trivial to me so I cancelled it.

Sounds like its a stored code rather than an active one, as Terry said different scanner may pick it up, so you can clear it, or if all is ok, may disapaer on its own after a few starts.

Ideally someone with a Tech 2 would be able to help and sort it.

Pedal trick should have worked, it did on my dads 04 mk4 astra auto.

Check cam and crank sensors, my own crank sensor has cracked perished cable but it works so not touching it

What aboit afm?

Nope, doesn't work on 2.2 Omega (which is a completely different engine to anything fitted to an Astra.

We encourage proper logic and diagnosis on OOF, not random part swapping :)

Whats the dig for?

I never suggested part swapping, but mearly think about the sensor as they can throw the light

Do Kevins Battery/Alternator check... low voltage can do funny things :-\
