intermittant problem on my 3.2
« on: 02 October 2016, 20:04:44 »

Hi everyone.

My 02 3.2 elite has an intermittant fault. It will start and run fine most of the time but there have been aprox 5 occasions where it has refused to start but after a bit of hanging around, checking connections  and a bit of old skool cortina 'faith healing' - i.e hitting the top of the lump and hoping for the best, she started and ran perfectly again. I had my mate come over last night with his computer doo-dad and apart from an exhaust sensor registered as having a fault,it has nothing on the computer. He reset the fault and it hasnt come back up (so far).

When it did fail to start there was a strange high pitched noise coming from under the plastic cover in the middle of the lump (aint ever heard a car do it before so i have no idea if thats normal)

Since the last start fail (on the way home from the garage last night) it has started on the button and ran fine again.

Am i right in thinking it could be a problem with the crank sensor or am i barking up the wrong tree hre?

Description is classic crank sensor failure.  :y

Must use a genuine part as replacement, easy fix  :y

CS would normally be the first call on a non start V6.

Dont bother with crappy cheapo's though. beg, steal or borrow a Genuine from somewhere if you need to prove a point, there only a 10 min job.

Thanks guys. After reading the other threads i was thinking this might be the case. I cant believe how common crank sensor failure is on these cars.

Ill get down to vauxhall and get another one (after ive looked to see which one i need to get, that is) ☺👍
